In an outlying suburb of a medium-sized city, there is a straight residential street lying between two longer, parallel roads. There are a mere 34 houses on the street. Traffic rarely exceeds 30 kilometres per hour.

Despite all of this, a number of deaths and injuries have occurred to people travelling on this street. These deaths and injuries continue against general downward trends in the road toll. Why?

Do the deaths occure to pedestrians? To people in cars? To cyclists?
Do victims share a common trait? Like they are only (or in vast majority) children? Women?
Do other vehicles, apart cars, bikes, motorcycles and buses use the street?
Is there anything besides 34 houses on the street? Any public building? A bus stop?

Do all the deaths and injuries have the same cause? Are they due to impact? Are vehicles involved? Animals? Are the people injured/killed by another person or people? Are they suicides?

Do the deaths/injuries happen while the people are travelling on the street? After they have travelled on the street? Do they happen to residents of the street?

Are boats relevant? Aeroplanes? Rickshaws? Skateboards? Roller skates? Scooters? Mobility scooters? Pushchairs/prams? Lorries?

I was thinking about a street in Spain in the city where they do bull races, but I see animals are not involved.

Is the street particularly steep?

Redwine:

Is the street particularly steep? yes!

***** SPOILER *****

The street is Baldwin street in Dunedin, New Zealand, officially recognised as the world's steepest street with a 35% grade.

Dunedin is home to the University of Otago, and is composed largely of students. A number of incidents have occurred in which students have gone from the top of the street to the bottom in a wheeled convenience (such as a shopping cart or a wheeled rubbish bin), similar to riding Niagara falls in a barrel. These have, over the years, resulted in injuries and even deaths. Students being students, injuries and deaths are no deterrent.

Blimey, that went quickly. Back to the drawing board.
