I've never seen a glerk in a supermarket, & I bet you haven't either. But I think it's obvious that they ought to be there. What's a glerk?

Ok. Now I need to figure out where you've actually seen a glerk...

Have you see a glerk at a high school? university or college campus? hospital? restaurant? museum? sports arena? hotel room? airport? train station? someone's home?

Have you seen one indoors? outdoors?

You missed one of my questions: Should each store have one glerk? several glerks?

Are glerks to do with hygiene? safety? communication?

You say you've seen glerks at university. Are they commonly found in classrooms? hallways? offices? libraries? dining halls?
Do you have a glerk in your office? If not, would you like to have one?

Does a glerk have moving parts?
Does a glerk make some kind of noise?

Do you actively use a glerk? Or are they rather something that you turn on and then it just runs (e.g. a ceiling fan)?

Can you store something in a glerk?

Can a glerk move around? Is it on wheels? Is it powered by: human? Animal? Spring? Can it be considered a tool? Are glerks bigger than: oranges? Melons? Microwave ovens? Washing machines? Can you accomplish anything useful by: sitting on it? Stepping on it? Hitting it? Yelling at it? Looking at it? Pushing it? Carrying it?

Huh, I thought I had posted questions, but the forum must have eaten them.

Do the employees use it while working? before work? after work? during breaks?

And although Paul also asked it, I'll ask again - is it a type of chair? A comfy chair?

Do the employees use it while working?Well, it's not there at all. So I'll answer in terms of when employees would use them. The answer here would be yes before work? less likelyafter work? ditto during breaks? no

And although Paul also asked it, I'll ask again - is it a type of chair? yes A comfy chair? yes, but be more specific

Nice puzzle!
However, I think most supermarkets in Germany do have swivel chairs for their cashiers. So I really wonder why they don't have them in the States.

Here in Sweden, the cashiers have swivel chairs attached to the counter by an articulated boom. This means no wheels to get stuck or damaged, and the chair is always where it should be. They seem really nice.

I once asked that question when I was a cashier at Ace Hardware... short answer they gave me: So you won't fall asleep. Alternatively, to keep cashiers moving around, doing general straightening, cleaning, etc, when things are slow.
