Glemmies are rarely found in supermarkets, but they should be, although they benefit neither staff nor employees. What are glemmies?

Apparently this should read:

"Glemmies are rarely found in supermarkets, but they should be, although they benefit primarily neither customers nor employees. What are glemmies?"

Would they benefit customers? Would they be sold to customers? Given to customers? Used by customers? Are they inanimate objects? Emergencies relevant?

Do they benefit customers? Or did you mean to say "they benefit neither staff nor customers"?

********* SPOILER *****************
My local supermarket occasionally has large bins where shoppers can donate food for the homeless. All supermarkets should have them, always, because it's such a convenient way to donate: just buy a few extra non-perishable groceries & drop them in. You'll likewise find it convenient to turn your clever lateral minds to my new puzzle, which is at the bottom of the page.

My supermarket has a permanent donation bin. Also, here in Germany we have a bottle deposit, and when you return your bottles to the supermarket, you get a receipt that you can either exchange for cash or donate to a local charity.
