Does she buy it in a supermarket? smaller shop? Bakery?

Does her method of payment matter? Does she pay cash? credit/debit card? Does she use a coupon?
Is she committing a crime?

Are the loaves wrapped or baked fresh on the premises? Does she buy them both at the same time or does she come back for the second later?

Random thought: Does she fancy someone in the shop/bakery?

Is this the standard American (or British) loaf that one might buy in a supermarket? Some special type of bread? (i.e. French, Italian, etc.) Pita? (I suppose this could be called a loaf, since my dictionary defines 'loaf' as 'bread baked in a definite form.')

It's baguette, which works especially well, but other types of bread might work too

Does she use the baguettes for a relevant secondary purpose besides eating them? Do the baguettes fulfil the purpose at home? In the bakery? On the way home? Somewhere else?

Does she buy something else in the bakery? Somewhere else? Before buying the bread? Afterwards?

Is it relevant where the bakery is? How far it is from home? How she gets there? By car? bike? bus? tram? walking?

Does she take her children with her when going to the bakery? Her dog? some other pet? relevant?

Just to get things clear: does she buy two baguettes every two days, instead of one baguette each day? or is she actually buying the double quantity of what she needs?

Does the bakery only bakes baguettes on certain days, not everyday? Is it inconvenient for her to go to the bakery, so she chooses not to go there everyday?
Are the baguettes both eaten on that day when she brings them home?
Does she use the baguettes to make some other food her family likes and wants so much of that other food that one baguette is not enough?

Is it relevant where the bakery is located in relation to her home? Is it relevant at what time of a day she buys baguettes?
Does she work in two different locations and the bakery is close to only one of them, so she buys baguettes only when she works close to the bakery?
If she bought baguettes in other place, would she still buy two?

Somewhat of a BLOOOOPER: I said that baguette works especially well, but I don't remember why I said that, and I cannot think of a valid reason. So I guess it's irrel that it is baguette and not some other kind of bread.

Does she try to save money by doing shopping as rarely as possible? So she buys the double amount of bread to visit bakery once for two days?
Is she on a diet and cannot resist buying herself a snack when she's in a bakery?

no to all

HINT: This would also work if she bought e.g. sausages at the butcher's or even stamps at the post office.

If she could order the bread to be delivered by the same bakery to her house, would she still order the double amount needed?
Is the cost of bread relevant? Is it easier for her to pay for two loaves than for one? Does she need exact change for something else?
Is her method of payment relevant? Do the bakery establishes a minimum amount to allow card payment?

Does Melissa's language use gender articles? her native language does not, but the one she uses at the bakery does And she does not know what grammar gender the items are so does not know which article to use? correct! We have everything for the

********SPOILER********

This is based on an anecdote my English professor in France told us. When her family first came to France, her mother had trouble remembering the grammatical gender of certain words. So whenever she bought bread at the bakery, she would order "deux baguettes" instead of "une baguette" because she didn't want to make a fool of herself using the wrong article.

Well played, everyone, especially Paul and RedWine. Please check out my new puzzle as well as my two other running puzzles.
