Poor: little money? No job? No home?
Deprive: physically take it from him? Prevent him from receiving it?
Food: specific food item(s)? Food in general? Did she have good intentions? Did she do good?

Did she plan to substitute the man's food with something that she thought would be better?
Or did she think that the man's food would be detrimental to him so she was acting to protect him?

Was the food a fruit? Meat? Vegetable? Bread?
Did the woman recognize the food? Did she want it for herself? Did she plan to give it back to him later? To give it to someone else? To throw it away? To do something else with it?
Did she think the man was somehow in danger by eating the food? Was he eating a candy bar and she was afraid he might be diabetic?
Is it relevant where this happened?
Are any other people involved besides the middle class woman and the poor man?
Had the woman ever seen this man before? Had the man ever seen her before?
Did the woman ask the man to give her the food? Did she somehow trick him into giving it to her?
Did she take it from him when he wasn't looking? While he was asleep? While he was distracted?

Was it a salad? Soup? A cooked item? An item eaten raw? A pre-packaged item?
Did this happen in a restaurant? At the lady's house? At the place where the man lives/stays? At a place of business? At a school? A church? An airport? A police station? A sidewalk? Indoors? Outdoors?
Did the woman take the food by force? Remove it from the man's hand(s)? Snatch it away from him before he could stop her?
Was the man angry at the woman for taking the food? Surprised? Shocked? Happy? Did he expect to get it back? Did he think he'd be able to get more of the same kind of food within a short amount of time?

Was the man angry at the woman for taking the food? Maybe later. Surprised? Definitely. Shocked? Yes. Happy? No. Did he expect to get it back? Probably not. Did he think he'd be able to get more of the same kind of food within a short amount of time? Yes, but...

Was the incident accidental? e.g. she thought the soup was hers?
You say she was 'good-looking' and 'middle class'. Would the situation be similar if she were plain and working-class (but not dirt poor)?

Is it a restaurant where someone calls out the name of the customer whose food is ready? If so, did the woman mishear the name?

Did she order the same dish? Was it a rather expensive dish she thought the poor-looking man would never order in a lifetime? (but he, in fact, was the 10000st customer of the restaurant and got the meal for free?)

It was a restaurant that offers cheap, home-like meals. (but he, in fact, was the 10000st customer of the restaurant and got the meal for free?) He paid for his meal.

WAG: Did he leave the table for a moment, and she thought he was through, and she was still hungry, so she took his food?

Is physical proximity relevant? Were they sitting next to each other? Is it a buffet-type restaurant?

Did she see the man's bowl of soup and mistook it for hers? Did she think HE had taken HER bowl of soup?
Did she leave her table to return to the buffet/food line, and while she was gone a busboy cleared her soup bowl thinking she was done, so when she returned to the table it seemed to her that the man who was sitting nearby (and had a similar looking soup bowl) had taken her bowl?

You stated that she had good intentions. Did she have a cold, or some other kind of sickness, and when she thought the man had taken her bowl she acted to take it back so that he wouldn't get sick from accidentally eating from the same bowl?

So the woman returned to her table...and her bowl of soup was gone? Or was it still on her table? And the man was sitting at a table near hers? Or was the man not sitting? Had the man taken something else off of her table? Was her bowl on a tray? And the man took the tray?

********SPOILER*********
The woman took two dishes for dinner in a buffet - type restaurant. She took them to the table and returned to the counter for some reason. She came back and saw poor-looking stranger from a foreign country eating her dish. The woman did not know any foreign language. She was shocked with the man's alleged behavior and decided that she won't let him eat the other dish (the soup) as well. So she sat to the table next to the man and ate the soup.
The man finished his food first and left the restaurant. When the woman finished and stood up to leave the place, she noticed HER both dishes still untouched on the nearby table where she left them.

The woman still wonders what could the foreigner think about customs in our country...

Thanks for playing, especially Ixoye for bringing this puzzle to its end.
