Last week, I worked as a camp counsellor at a day camp. There were two 11-year-olds, a girl and a boy, who seemed to like each other more than just a little. We all agreed they would make a cute couple one day.

However, I jokingly said, "I guess their relationship will end in disaster!". Why?

Are their names relevant? Is there something about them that seems, at least at face value, incompatible (but in reality would not present an obstacle)?

Is there something about their relationship that mirrors a famous, existing one?

Do they share their names with some famous people? Would the relationship between those two people be disastrous? Is there some wordplay? Do their names resemble the names of some inanimate objects or substances that wouldn't be great together, so to speak?

Are they Jack & Jill? Romeo & Juliet?

'We all': specific number of people relevant?

Have 'we all' made erroneous predictions before?

Did something happen between noticing their interest in each other & your joking prediction?

Was that "yes" to objects? Or to substances? neither "objects" nor "substances" is the perfect word, but it's something inanimate

Is the boy's name a common German name? The girl's? The camp was in France and both names are relatively common French names

German language relevant? no, language in general is not relevant

Anything about France relevant at all?

Are the things their names resemble tangible? Are the kids' names actually etimologically related to the names of those things?

Are only the names of the things relevant? Or something about the things themselves (their structure, properties etc.)?

Is it the point of the joke that the things these names resemble can't interact in real life? Or is there more to it?

Did the names merely resemble the names of these things? Or are they exactly the same? Do those things exist in real world? Are they fictional? Can there be more than one of those things? Are those things sets or systems consisting of multiple objects?

Are we talking about first names here? Last names?

Is it the point of the joke that the things these names resemble can't interact in real life? no Or is there more to it? yes

Did the names merely resemble the names of these things? Or are they exactly the same? The girl's name is exactly the same, the boy's name is one letter off Do those things exist in real world? yes Are they fictional? no Can there be more than one of those things? yope, but see the clarification below Are those things sets or systems consisting of multiple objects? no

Are we talking about first names here? this Last names?

HINT / CLARIFICATION: The things in question can be referred to with either a common noun or a proper noun. The proper nouns are relevant here. There can be more than one of the things, but the proper nouns refer to one specific "specimen".

Are those things astronomical objects? Are they located on Earth? If so, is the boy's thing in Europe? Asia? Australia? Africa? South America? North America? Antarctic? Same for the girl's thing.

Do these things have size? If so, is the boy's thing larger than a coin? A matchbox? An apple? A basketball? A chair? A car? A house? A city? Same for the girl's thing.

Was the girl's name derived from the thing's name? Or was it vice versa? Same for the boy's name

Is something that happened to these things at some point in real life relevant?

Are those things astronomical objects? no, but getting OTRT Are they located on Earth? yes If so, is the boy's thing in Europe? It was, it doesn't exist anymore Asia? Australia? Africa? South America? North America? Antarctic? Same for the girl's thing. The girl's thing was located in North America

Do these things have size? noish. They are very big, but their size varies and is hard to measure If so, is the boy's thing larger than a coin? A matchbox? An apple? A basketball? A chair? A car? A house? A city? Same for the girl's thing.

Was the girl's name derived from the thing's name? Or was it vice versa? Same for the boy's name The things' names were derived from first names that are the same or similar to the kids' first names

Is something that happened to these things at some point in real life relevant? More like the other way round - the things caused something that is relevant

So, these kids share their names with two (famous) hurricanes, and the joke is that, because they share names with such destructive things, together they would be twice as deadly?
