Was it a bar that offered him free drinks for a month? Did they offer it to him because he helped them in some way? Did he accomplish something unusual in order to get it? If he HADN'T forgotten his drink at work, would he still have gotten the free drinks for a month?

Bar guests relevant? Bar employees? Did he prevent something bad? Stop a crime? Do something good? Improve business for the bar? Do we need to know more about the forgotten drink, or is it only important in that it made him go to the bar to get another one? Relevant exactly what drink he got at the bar? Was it an alcoholic drink? A beer?

Did he get the free Drinks from the guests? Is it always the same guest? Does he know after the first visit to the bar that he is going to get free Drinks for a month?

Does he trick the guests into buying him Drinks? leaving their own just-ordered Drinks to him? Does he compensate the guests for the Drinks in some way? Does he persuade the guests to abstain from alcohol?

The first day at the bar: Is he doing something relevant that results in him getting free Drinks for the month? Or is he doing somenthing each day that gets him free Drinks for that day?

Is Patrick a celebrity?

Does he work in a morgue? Somewhere else that is related to death? Did he say something like he had left something precious at the morgue?
Does his forgotten carbonated drink have a name? A brand name? Could this name be mistaken for a person's name?

Soda pop? "I buried my pop"? Yes to both.

****SPOILER****

In the below exchange from one of the Breaking Madden roster cuts, I just combined the real and hypothetical situations and presented it as a puzzle, where Patrick gets sympathy from patrons at bars who buy him a drink as consolation.
