It take it that it's not an actual cigarette?
Is it man-made? Natural?
Does it emit smoke? A smokestack? A volcano?
Does it kill instantly? Does it cause cancer? Some other disease?
Cryptography relevant?

A snake? No. I shouldn't have said that 'reptile' was closest, but it was closer than the others. So what is left?

A frog? No. Are frogs beautiful? I guess some of them do have beautiful coloring, but not in this case. Neither frog or toad.Does it have a color scheme that resembles a cigarette? It does not resemble a cigarette in any way.

Not sure what the animal is but I've a theory on why it might be called a 'cigarette' . Is it because it's venom is so deadly you only have time for one last cigarette before you die?

**********************SPOILER*****************************
The geographic cone snail, found in the Phiippines, has a beautifully patterned shell, red and cream, but is so toxic, even to humans that if you are bitten by one, you will have, as Peter says, just about time to smoke one cigarette.

I have heard of the cone snail (mentioned in one of the Alex Rider books), but I had never heard the "cigarette" thing before.
Very good one!

Yesterday I actually read a trivia tidbit about this very snail, including the "cigarette" bit. (After the spoiler, fortunately.)
