[JenBurdoo] Folksong Puzzle Four-plus: Thanks to Alhucema

I know it was picked at random, but given my other puzzles it was a surprisingly good choice!

Is any folk song involved?

Four plus - does it relate to a real number? If so, of people?

Is any folk song involved? Yope.

Four plus - does it relate to a real number? If so, of people? No to both. The title isn't really relevant, but I definitely couldn't call it Folksong Puzzle 5.

Is Colin a character in a folk song? As a temporary name chosen by Alhucema in Folksong Puzzle 4 (http://lateralpuzzles.com/puzzles/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=11317), yes.

I know it is a character of that folksong puzzle....what I guessed was it is a character in a folk song, which evidently is no.

Is it the name of a folk song singer?

Is it the name of a folk song singer? No.

Is Colin famous?

Is he still alive?

Is the reason why the title of your puzzle is "four-plus" that it is not about a new song, but related to one you already used in your puzzle?

Was Colin in the newspapers? Yes.

Was he in any of the roles of the protagonists of the song? No, but see next answer.

Was Colin's surname Kelly? Was he a captain? Correct on both counts.

Almost done; the final step is to figure out what relationship he has with my other puzzles. I know Balin can answer this one.

Clarification: There is something about the sorts of puzzles I generally post that makes Alhucema's choice of "Colin" as Captain Kelly's placeholder name in the previous puzzle especially appropriate.

Was Colin protagonist of a particular episode during WWII? Odd enough to serve as inspiration for a puzzle?
Or, what he did is irrelevant for this puzzle?

Or, what he did is irrelevant for this puzzle? Correct. There are other placeholder names that could have been chosen for other songs that would have garnered a similar response from me. For example, if I had used the song "Mick McGuire" for a puzzle and McGuire's placeholder name had been Tom, I would have had the same reaction for the same reason.

This is one question from solution, and several questions have already flirted with the answer...

What sorts of puzzles do I tend to set, and what makes that ironic in light of Alhucema's choice of name for Captain Kelly, a character in my latest folksong puzzle?

Is it that the name came up in a non-WWII puzzle? Eh, close enough.

Spoiler:

Due to my rather narrow interests, I tend to post two types of puzzles - folksong puzzles, and stories from military history and aviation. When Alhucema chose the placeholder name Colin for the character of Captain Kelly in my folksong puzzle about "Courtin' in the Kitchen," I found it an incredible coincidence, because Captain Colin P. Kelly was a real person of military-aviation fame. He famously died in December 1941 in the Philippines, holding his damaged B-17 bomber steady long enough for the rest of his crew to parachute to safety. Songs and films were written about him, and he was popularly thought to have won the Medal of Honor for sinking a Japanese battleship (he actually damaged a cruiser, and earned a posthumous Distinguished Service Cross).
