(Grip) Grip's Locked Room

Postby Grip » Mon Oct 31, 2016 6:29 pm

I'm going to try one of these, as it's my first attempt it may be a disaster so be forewarned.

I'm in a locked room. The room is bare except for a small iron hook and a door with a slot and a button on it. I have a screwdriver, toothbrush, towel, satchel and a stack of junk mail. I'm wearing a cloak. What should I do?

Examine the satchel and the cloak to see if there is something inside/in the pockets.
Where is the small hook located? can you move it?
Can you describe the slot and button on the door?

Good thing you know where yor towel is.
Can the hook move? Can it bear your weight? Can you hang the towel on it? Can you put the junk mail through the slot? If so, does it annoy someone?

Examine the satchel and the cloak to see if there is something inside/in the pockets. Okay, nothing in the cloak pockets apart from some pocket fluff. The satchel is empty.
Where is the small hook located? It's in a corner of the room. can you move it? Nope, it's very tight in the wall.
Can you describe the slot and button on the door? Sure, the slot is small and narrow and it is where a doorknob on a regular door would be. The button is a few inches above it and is very nondescript. It is small and colorless.

Good thing you know where yor towel is. I guess!

Can the hook move? It's completely rigid. Can it bear your weight? Yes Can you hang the towel on it? Yup. Can you put the junk mail through the slot? Something is blocking them from going all the way through. If so, does it annoy someone? So no.

Does the slot seam a card reader? Can you put the screwdriver into it and see if there is something?
Distance from the hook to the door?

Does the slot seam a card reader? No, not at all, but who knows? Can you put the screwdriver into it and see if there is something? Okay, when I move the screwdriver around, it does seem to be scraping something metallic.
Distance from the hook to the door? The corner with the hook is not that far from the door.

Can the grate be opened? It's rusted shut. Can you use the screwdriver to open it? I try but it does not work and I think it damaged the screwdriver! Can you see what's inside? I peer inside the grate and just see blackness.

Did you bend the scredriver? Chip it? Can it still screw? Pry? Can it do anything relevant that it couldn't before?

Did you bend the screwdriver? Yes, it is rather bent. Chip it? I don't see any chips. Can it still screw? I think so, but not as easily as before of course. Pry? No. Can it do anything relevant that it couldn't before? No, I don't think so.

I have a hunch where this is going... I wouldn't be surprised! This is somewhat (in)famous in certain circles.

Push the button. Okay, I push the button! A key comes flying out of the slot and goes into a hole in the wall that has suddenly appeared below the hook. The hole then closes up.

Take off your cloak and hang it on the hook. Then put the towel over the drain. Then push the button and watch for hidden wall panels.

Which wall is the door in?
Try inserting the key in the door. If this fails, put the satchel in front of the hidden panel where the wind is and put the junk mail on the satchel, then push the button.

Which wall is the door in? The North Wall.
Try inserting the key in the door. I can't, as far as I can tell there is no keyhole in the door. If this fails, put the satchel in front of the hidden panel where the wind is and put the junk mail on the satchel, then push the button. Okay, the gust of wind dies down with the satchel in front of the hole, I put the junk mail on the satchel and push the button. I don't get another key but now there is a hole with wind blowing out of it in the east wall!

You mean we have two holes sending out wind now? In which wall was the first one?
Try pushing the button again.

You mean we have two holes sending out wind now? Yes, but one of them is blocked with the satchel and not blowing wind anymore.. In which wall was the first one? Western.
Try pushing the button again. Alright... oh 'cmon, now the southern wall has a hole that appeared in it! No wind though.

Can you look into the three holes? Is there something?
If you remove the satchel, does the wind blows again from the west hole?
Can you use the satchel on the other two holes? with what result?

Can you look into the three holes? Okay, sure thing. Is there something? Not that I can see, just darkness.
If you remove the satchel, does the wind blows again from the west hole? When I did that to look in the hole, I could still feel the wind.
Can you use the satchel on the other two holes? Yes. with what result? Nothing, sadly.

Is there a keyhole in the door? None that I can see. Can you try unlocking it? So, no.
Can you try blocking holes with the cloak and towel? Okay, sure! I'm blocking two of the three holes with cloak and towel. Not quite cloak and dagger, is it?
Then push the button again. Okay...nothing!

Thanks, being my first locked room I tried not to make it too elaborate and I based it on the infamous Babel Fish puzzle.
