[Twilightseeker] Ad nauseam

Postby Twilightseeker » Mon Nov 07, 2016 10:40 pm

I repeated the questions four times, but everyone was silent. A while later, I left the room, reasonably satisfied.

Edit: I had to correct the typo in the title since it was starting to bother me.

Were you addressing the questions to those who remained silent? Were the questions rhetorical, or otherwise not demanding of a response? Had you written or otherwise conceived of the questions? Were they being asked on behalf of someone else? Did you want answers to them? If they had been answered, would it have indicated that something was wrong?

Was there something procedural about this? Did you change anything about the questions between repetitions? Was it feasible that circumstances may have changed, giving rise to someone answering, between iterations?

Was this some sort of performance? Is the type of room relevant? Is it a physical room? Internet-based? Is it at school? A place of work? A place of public performance? A courtroom?

Were there nonverbal answers to the questions? Were the people physically unable to speak? Was this part of a game? A test?

is the title relevant? Not really. Just due to the fact that I had to repeat the question over and over (potentially "ad nauseam" but not really) If yes, is the misspelling in the title relevant at all? Woops, nope. That's a typo !!

If anyone had answered your questions would that indicate to you a lack of understanding on their part?

Was your questions anything like "can you answer me and by doing so show that you're an idiot?" or something like "will you answer this question so that I can give you a bad grade?"

They understood your questions and were silent?

Silent = didn't speak? didn't even move?

Were they silent, but responded to your questions in some other non-verbal way?

They understood your questions and were silent? Most understood. All were silent.

Silent = didn't speak? This didn't even move?

Were they silent, but responded to your questions in some other non-verbal way? Yes!

Did you see what they wrote? Only see that they wrote? Did they write what you said? Answers to what you said? Yes.

And I think this about wraps it up.

***SPOILER***

I teach a college French course, and as part of each test, I have an oral comprehension section. I repeat several questions over about three times each, so my students can understand, and then they write their answers to the questions on the test. I can always tell whether they fully understood the question by looking at what their response to it is. This last time, most students appeared to have comprehended quite well, so I was satisfied that I had taught them well

Thanks for GalFisk for the last bits and to all others who participated!
