[Balin] Blue spruces and spirits

Postby Balin » Wed Dec 07, 2016 3:52 am

Because of Callista's late-night Facebook post, I suspected she had not seen something bridge-related. Why?
Callista = H/A/F
"I" = me, Balin (H/A/M)

News relevant? Accidents?
Bridge = the structure? A real life one? The card game?
Would she not have made the post if she had seen it? Because it would have been inappropiate for the situation? Because of something she would have known?

Something: an image? Some writing? Seen the bridge in question in real life? Color of the bridge relevant? Size? Type? Location? Is there a relevant problem with the bridge? Could the something only be seen at a certain time? Before a certain time? After? Tragedy relevant? Suicide? Is the bridge over: water? Valley? Road(s)? Rail(s)? Is it especially: tall? Low? Short? Long? Record-breaking? Broken? Unfinished? Is something happening on the bridge relevant? Is it a foot bridge? Road bridge? Rail bridge?

Is this London Bridge? and Callista thought it was still in London?

Is the bridge located in North America? South America? Asia? Europe? Africa?

Would this puzzle still work if C had made her posting earlier in the night or day?

Did the FaceBook post consist of only a picture? only text? both?

Did C just post the my fair lady verse? in tribute to someone?

Did C think "my fair lady" referred to Eliza Dolittle? get the song mixed up with the play somehow?

Did Callista think somebody connected with My Fair Lady had just passed away?

Did Callista refer to the musical or movie in her post?

Is properly speaking English relevant (at least how to do it according to Prof. Higgins)? are accents relevant? Personally, I speak and write the English always good.

I've never seen the full movie or musical, just snippets so my questions may be just a tad inaccurate...

Is the one character Eliza? Higgins? Higgins mother? Eliza's father?

Is the relevant song "Without You?" "Wouldn't It Be Loverley?" "I Could Have Danced All Night?" "With A Little Bit of Luck?" "On The Street Where You Live?"

Figures the relevant song would be one of the few I missed. :)

Is the relevant song "Get Me To The Church On Time?" "Just You Wait, Henry Higgins Just You Wait?" "Why Can't The English?" (I think that's all of them now...)

Again, my knowledge of Eliza's dad is limited (Alfred, I think his name was), so this might all be way off...is it relevant how her dad talked? relevant that he was a jerk (that's how he came off to me, anyway)? that he was a garbage man? his treatment of Eliza relevant? the deal he made with Higgins relevant?

I really don't know much about the context of the song not having seen the musical in any form, will that handicap it for me and others in the same situation?

Relevant who Al was marrying? was the marriage some sort of scheme? was it a marriage for financial reasons? relevant that Al mentions that all the girls are kissing him because once married he won't be seeing them?

I really don't know much about the context of the song not having seen the musical in any form, will that handicap it for me and others in the same situation? I don't think so, but I'll provide the context. Mr. Doolittle has just inherited a sum of money that will move him up to middle class; in order to live up to middle-class respectability, he must marry his long-time partner.

Relevant who Al was marrying? No was the marriage some sort of scheme? No was it a marriage for financial reasons? See above relevant that Al mentions that all the girls are kissing him because once married he won't be seeing them? This is very much OTRT

So Lisa erred in that the song verse she posts to celebrate her wedding is actually from a song sung by a dirty old jerky man who is only getting married for appearances related to money? so obviously, she has not seen the musical to understand this?

So Lisa erred in that the song verse she posts to celebrate her wedding is actually from a song sung by a dirty old jerky man who is only getting married for appearances related to money? so obviously, she has not seen the musical to understand this? Basically.

****SPOILER****

Callista (not her real name) got married and posted the first lyrics from "Get Me to the Church on Time" as her Facebook status the night before her wedding:

I'm getting married in the morning!
Ding dong! The bells are gonna chime.
Pull out the stopper, let's have a whopper,
But get me to the church on time!

However, Alfred Doolittle (who sings the song) has no desire to actually get married, only doing so because he is has to live up to middle-class respectability. In fact, some performances of the song turn it into a dirge midway as Alfred laments the loss of his current lifestyle. So I suspect Callista hadn't actually seen My Fair Lady, or she wouldn't have posted the lyrics from a song about not wanting to get married.

That's two solves in two posts – nice work Grip!
