[WiZ] For my 1000th post, this ought've been better

Postby WiZ » Tue Dec 20, 2016 11:46 pm

A skilled professional is promoted to a senior managerial position. A few months later, he sends all his suits to a tailor to be adjusted. Why? (he has undergone no relevant physical change).

Happy 1000th post!

Is the color of the suits relevant? The material? Is the tailor relevant in any way other than altering the suits?

Oops, I meant to type "emotional" in my last post, not "physical."

So, if this an emotional as well as mental change?

Silly q: did he send all his playing or tarot cards to be tailored?

Does Bert want to change his suits? Does he anticipate altering his suits when he is first promoted? Was the promotion expected?
Would anyone else in the same position make the same alterations?

Silly q: did he send all his playing or tarot cards to be tailored? Not silly at all. In fact, quite lateral. But incorrect.

Is Bert doing this out of vanity? necessity? to show he can get things done?

Is Bert's profession relevant? is he a tailor himself?

Was he promoted in the same field? same company? is Bert an engineer? a rodeo clown? a medical doctor?

Does Bert have to follow a different dress code as a senior manager? The same dresscode more strictly? Does he have or want to be a role model for dress code?

Is he moved to another office desk? Is the furniture there relevant? Has he damaged his suits?

Does he get both jacker & trousers of each suit adjusted? Is the number of suits relevant?

Does he get sleeves? or legs lengthened ? shortened? waist taken in ? let out?

Does he add something? like an extra button? does he adjust the fly on his trousers?

Could the suits be described as a uniform?

Did Bert wear the suits to work before the promotion? or does his elevated status now require him to wear one?

He's not in the army is he?

Does he have to carry a phone? Or, if he used to carry a phone in his former position - a bigger phone than before? a tablet? keys?

We're there, really.

***** SPOILER *****

When he undertook the managerial role, he was given a PDA as a gift. He soon found it incredibly useful in organising not only his professional life, but his personal life as well. It became indispensable to him. He went to a tailor and had his pockets lengthened/deepened in the interest of having this life-saving device with him at all times!

I read this as a personal testimony in a book I was issued at work about finding your strengths. This one was for 'disciplined'. Well done, Doriana, for the solve. Congratulations to Peter for an excellent round of questions, and thank you everyone else for playing.
