[WiZ] Like a 650cc, I hope this goes quickly

Postby WiZ » Wed Dec 21, 2016 10:11 pm

A traditionally white, rural, conservative town has fruit as the backbone of its economy. Over a period of years, Indian migrants flood into the town, to pick up orcharding work and start new lives for their families. They begin to become a more influential part of the town's culture. A Sikh temple even opens near the outskirts.

A prominent member of the chamber of commerce has been taking a keen interest in this, over the years. He has been watching how this new social group has been integrating into the well-entrenched fabric of his society, and the changes that are being brought about. He picks up the phone and makes a call to an old friend...

As worshippers leave the Sikh temple after the latest service, they are greeted by several dozen burly, bearded, tattooed members of a local gang, standing outside the temple doors.

Later on, the commercant is publicly praised for the action he took.

What did he arrange?

Relevant which town? what the fruit is? what country this is in?

Were all the Indians in the town Sikhs? was the entire Indian population in the town in the church? if not, were those Indians who weren't left alone?

Did the praise come from the local public? national? international?

Were the Sikh's harmed? thrown out of town? protected? was the gang friendly to them? was their fate negative? positive? neutral? were the Sikhs glad for what happened?

Commercant - were his motives benign? malevolent?

I figured your very hard-boiled description of the gang was a misdirection! :)

Are any of the tattoos on the gang members relevant? are any of them also Sikhs? were they there to show everyone that violence against the Sikhs would not be tolerated?

Was the old friend a member of the gang? the leader? did the commercant (I think I shall call him Mini-M...er Tad) know the old friend from before he entered the local CoC? is either the old friend or Tad Sikhs? Indians?

I figured your very hard-boiled description of the gang was a misdirection! :) I very rarely include totally irrelevant details in my puzzle statements...

Are any of the tattoos on the gang members relevant? no specific tattoo is relevant are any of them also Sikhs? no were they there to show everyone that violence against the Sikhs would not be tolerated? yes, that is an underlying message of the arrangement, but they weren't instructed to just stand around and look threatening

Was the old friend a member of the gang? the leader? assume this did the commercant (I think I shall call him Mini-M...er Tad) know the old friend from before he entered the local CoC? yes is either the old friend or Tad Sikhs? Indians? no to both

Did any of the gang enter the temple?

Did the gang escort the Sikhs to their homes?

Had there been a specific threat of violence toward the Indians/Sikhs?

Did any of the gang enter the temple? no

Did the gang escort the Sikhs to their homes? yes

Had there been a specific threat of violence toward the Indians/Sikhs? yes, several

***** SPOILER *****

A number of members of the Sikh community had been threatened with violence on their way home from temple services. The commercant arranged with a local (generally law-abiding) motorcycle gang for their members to escort the Sikhs home safely and deterring anti-social behaviour from others.

Well done, Grip, on this brisk solo effort.
