Was the tragedy on Christmas? yesish or just around the Christmas season? Christmas Eve, to be specific

They = men? women? children? teens? mixture of all or some of these? Yes a large group? yes, numbering in the thousands (although it's possible not all of them actually know they could have "fallen")

Did this occur this Christmas Eve? (And Merry Christmas, by the way!) :)

Was the tragedy an accident?

Is this based on fictional material? real life?

Ghosts relevant?

Did this occur this Christmas Eve? (And Merry Christmas, by the way!) :) Yes (and thank you, same to you!!)

Was the tragedy an accident? Well, no one intended for it to happen, so...yes? But so far as I can determine, no person was responsible for the tragedy.

Is this based on fictional material? real life? this, unfortunately.

Ghosts relevant? No, but good question

Did they want to fall? Did someone else want them to fall? Fall=fail? Die? Give up? Scatter? Lose group identity?

Did they want to fall? Well, it's likely that those who knew they could fall would have been either excited, or indifferent. I doubt any would have objected.Did someone else want them to fall? Others who were relevant, who would not fall, certainly wanted the rest to Fall=fail? Die? Give up? Scatter? None of theseLose group identity? Well, not exactly; they'd still belong to the group, but something would have changed, yes.

Are they the citizens of a city? Many of them live in cities, but not necessarily the same one - something else links them all. and they were hoping to fall in the rankings of number of accidents per cities? No, not like this.

Are they a team? No Do they share a profession? No Are they a company? No (There's an -ish element to all of these, but suffice it to say you're not close enough for me to say yes instead)Did anyone die in the tragedy? yes, for svv of 'anyone'Get injured? Hard to say, since I don't know the details of how the tragedy occurred. Suffice it to say that exactly one 'person' died, and a H/A/F was put through emotional trauma/injury, as well as possibly physical.

Is having a high ranking negative? and they were hoping to drop lower in the ranking? but an incident on Christmas Eve ruined this?

Was the ranking related to crime? accidents? car wrecks? Christmas/holidays?

Are they the citizens of a nation?

Is having a high ranking negative? Noish and they were hoping to drop lower in the ranking? Yes. All the people below a certain number could drop lower. But some could not, in this case. This may be helpful to explore. but an incident on Christmas Eve ruined this? Yes

Was the ranking related to crime? accidents? car wrecks? Christmas/holidays? None of these.

Are they the citizens of a nation? They don't all live in the same country, though those near the top of the ranking all do. They all have ties to a certain nation, though.

Well, yeah, if the ones who should have fallen actually moved up the line close enough to do that, we'd have - alright, the UK would've had - a disaster of catastrophic proportion. O_O

*Refocus*

Remember that some of them could not fall. (this time, at least.) It might help to focus on the nearest people to the throne who were expecting to fall, and why they expected to - and why they ended up not falling. i.e. what *was* the tragedy specifically.

I'm going to resist the temptation to cheat and look this up. :)

Was the person who died male? female? adult? child? 18th in the line of succession?

Was the accident related to drowning? falling? suffocation?

Was the person who died male? female? unknown adult? child? this is closest 18th in the line of succession? well they would have been, yes.

Was the accident this is probably not the right descriptionrelated to drowning? falling? suffocation? none of these

Was the person who passed a infant? stillborn? died soon after birth? died before being born? :(

Was the event the royals were expecting that would have made them fall on the list a birth in the family?

***SPOILER***

Zara Tindall (nee Phillips), eldest granddaughter of HM Queen Elizabeth II, is 16th in line for the throne and already has one child, Mia Grace Tindall (17th). She and her husband Mike were expecting their second child in the spring of 2017 - the pregnancy was announced at the end of November. But on Christmas Eve, the news broke that Zara had miscarried. The gender of the baby (if it could be discerned yet, I'm not an expert on these things) was never disclosed, but due to the current laws of succession, Mia's position in line couldn't have been displaced by a brother, so either way, the new baby would have been 18th in line for the throne.

(Zara's family, incidentally, is the last branch of the succession directly descended from Her Majesty. After Mia, the line jumps back to Viscount Linley, nephew of the Queen as the son of Princess Margaret, Countess of Snowdon, and his children. His sister and her descendants come next, then the Queen's cousins and their lines, and so on. The line of succession has been counted through living descendants of British monarchs all the way back to George I, which includes reigning (and deposed) families of other nations, too - unless, of course, they're Catholic.)

And thanks - it's one of my huge obsessions. I suppose since my real first and middle names are Elizabeth Anne, I was kind of stuck from the start :P
