Previous year's calendar, so she got a date wrong?
Calendar from another dating system, e.g. Muslim or Jewish?
Is the picture on the calendar, if any, relevant? Is it a pictorial calendar?
Is it a calendar from another country, showing different legal holidays? Relevant?

Good to see a new face here, even if it is a skull!

Welcome to the forum!

Is the calendar a physical calendar? Made of paper? Is the calendar on an electronic device?

What a good username. Welcome.

So, does "wrong calendar" mean next year's calendar instead of the current year's? Is it relevant what month it is when she is fired? If so, January? December?

Does the calendar signal that she has done something wrong? Did she steal the calendar :D ? Does someone relevant see the calendar? Does she relevantly consult the calendar? Write something on the calendar?

Is she fired for a just reason, i.e., did she commit a fireable offense? Was there a misunderstanding?

Welcome to the forum . The email I got to approve your first post really stood out among all of the obvious spammers we get looking to pollute our beloved forum.

I hope you'll enjoy your time here, it's a great wee place

Does displaying the wrong calendar cause her to commit the sackable offence or does it contribute to her getting caught doing something she'd been doing anyway?

Is she stealing?

Relevant what specific calendar it is? Should she not have been in possession of this particular calendar? Does it have any errors?

Just to make sure: Is the title relevant? Did she receive a jail sentence, of any duration? A suspended sentence? Or was she simply fired, with no other adverse effects?

Was someone offended by her choice of calendar? Had she chosen the calendar? Spent her own money on it? Is it relevant what industry she was employed in?

Is the calendar a daily one (the sort where you tear off each day as it comes)? A conventional calendar with twelve months and a picture for each, flipped as each month passes? An all-year calendar (if so, poster or pocket size)? An appointments calendar?

Is any specific element of the calendar relevant - weekdays, lines to write on, dates, the month? The typeface or color?

And may I add my welcome? We can always use new blood here... oh, wait.

Another welcome from me! Thank you, Lynne. The respect you people have for the dead warms my... well, I approve of it, in any event.

Does she work for a company that produces calendars? no

Another welcome from me, the forum's one and only Kaylee :D You must be the most transparent member of this forum, we can see right through you! *chuckles* Ah, I remember eyes. I once had them only for one lady. Now I have them for no-one at all. I'm a little green with envy, actually. Or perhaps I'm just starting to calcify. I think it makes me look more distinguished.

Was "next year" 2017? (Since it is now January 2017) yes An earlier year? Is this a true story? yes (dead men tell no tales, after all) FYOI (from your own imagination)? FSEI (from someone else's imagination?

Just to make sure: Is the title relevant? no Did she receive a jail sentence, of any duration? I believe there'd be a case for it, although it is difficult to say. Though I have no heart, I am not a lawyer. I think it's the spine that sets me apart. I have little else to go with in this day and age. A suspended sentence? Or was she simply fired, with no other adverse effects? Let us assume this, for the purposes of the puzzle. Although I believe with every marrow of my being that there was potential for greater liability.

I have missed a round of excellent questions from Jen Burdoo. A grave error on my part. Mea maxilla culpa.

Was someone offended by her choice of calendar? no Had she chosen the calendar? yes Spent her own money on it? irrelevant Is it relevant what industry she was employed in? yes

Is the calendar a daily one (the sort where you tear off each day as it comes)? no A conventional calendar with twelve months and a picture for each, flipped as each month passes? yes An all-year calendar (if so, poster or pocket size)? no An appointments calendar? no

Is any specific element of the calendar beyond what has been established? no relevant - weekdays, lines to write on, dates, the month? The typeface or color? no to all

And may I add my welcome? You may. We can always use new blood here... oh, wait. Although I'm no longer a sanguine sort, I do my best to be positive. Sorry. That was ghastly. No wonder so few can bring themselves to laugh at death.

I confess to getting a bit of help from Google as I'm not too sure about grounds for dismissal these days. The list didn't include displaying the wrong calendar so I'm still in the dark.

Did she get drunk at the Christmas party and put the wrong calendar up?

Well, it wouldn't be much of an exercise in lateral thinking if the grounds were obvious. Otherwise, we'd all intuitively associate albatross soup with one's own delicious children.

Did she get drunk at the Christmas party and put the wrong calendar up? no; this was premeditated

Is "Like a Surgeon" relevant? No. Much like yours truly, the parody genre is quite dead.

Did a doctor or other colleague make a relevant mistake because of her? Because he/she read the calendar? Did she change the calendar? Did she think her action was funny? Did anyone else?

Medication, tests, or prescriptions relevant?

Was any mistake made? By her? Was something forgotten? A wrong dosage administered? Is a specific patient relevant? If so, is it relevant what malady he/she had?

Is the time of day or date this happened relevant? The season? Holidays?

Is the patient present for emergency care? Long-term? Is he in a hospital? An ambulance? At home?

Is there a relevant medical procedure?

Is the patient likely to sue for malpractice? His family, if he joins you in the cemetery?

Is the patient dead? Is he likely to die?

Is he a victim of a disease? An accident? Old age? does he have any relevant malady at all? (Perhaps the doctor incorrectly diagnosed him?)

... is he a werewolf? Anything else where the calendar could make a difference? A period since his last visit? If female, the period since her last period?

Could this have occurred a hundred years ago? If not, due to technology, or to differing social norms?

Is it relevant what physical thing caused the heart attack? Apart from the calendar being wrong? Did he suffer a great shock at seeing the calendar? Did he wake from a sleep and think he'd been in a coma for a long time?

I used to feel that way when it was quiet in the shop where I worked alone. I'd find that it was later than I realised and my colleague would later ask me if I'd nodded off.

Did he think that the operation he'd had had gone on much longer than expected?

Did he think that the operation he'd had had gone on much longer than expected? No.

Truth be told, I think you have all the relevant facts.

********** SPOILER **********

She was an anaesthetic nurse who had put the next year's calendar on the wall as a prank. Upon waking from an operation, the patient saw the calendar, believed they had been in a coma for a year or so, suffered a heart attack and died (after, presumably, uttering something indemnifying in the vein of 'WHAT? 2017?')

Thus ends the life of a patient, the career of a nurse, and a puzzle by this old fossil. I hope you enjoyed it. The rigor of your questioning was rivalled only by the rigor of my mortis.

I did a puzzle many years ago where I said that if I woke and found my family by my bed I'd believe I was dying. I'd had a nasty cough that could turn serious but if my family travelled to be by me I'd know something was up. After all, where there's a will, there's a relative.

A fine debut!

Incidentally, I may have to steal your skull-and-crossbones unicode thing for a solved puzzle. Or maybe to denote a puzzle statement in which someone lies dead.
