Did they do so on purpose? Did they not know any better themselves? Was what they told you based on outdated information?

Were they doing this for fun? To teach you a lesson? To avoid telling you something else? Did you feel betrayed when you learned the truth?

Specific historical event or person relevant?

An event: during your lifetime? During theirs? Your grandparents'? Before? Relevant? Did they give you false information about the event itself? About specific person(s)' involvement in said event?

Did they tell you someone was involved with an historical event that wasn't? A famous event? Survivor of a disaster? Heroism involved? Were they making some sort of pun? Is there something funny in retrospect about this? (Otherwise I have a hard time understanding how it is a prank rather than a cruel joke.)

Hello everybody,
glad to be part of the forum and hope to give my contribution :SSS.

So, have you learned the truth about this event later on? In a year time? Two years time?More? Where: At school? From you parents? During a conversation with them? Somewhere else?

Have you seen something relevant that made you ask something to your parents when you was a child? Such as a scar? An old picture? An object? A book? A film? A documentary?

When did it happen: Ancient times? Modern times? WWI?WWII?
Did they tell you that someone (still existing?Dead?A fictional character?Such as Santa?Cartoon character?Real person?) had done something relevant? Something negative? Something positive? Helped someone? Talked to someone?Invented something?

Well, this one is almost solved, so I will end it early

[SPOILER]
My parents convinced me that they were best pals with cavemen, and that they've been given a chant which would make the door to my room led to their time.
