[Doriana] Ejool

Postby Doriana » Fri Mar 03, 2017 10:25 am

Every day, for a couple of weeks, he would ask us how Lisa was doing.

Edit: This is now a two-tier puzzle. Here's the puzzle statement for the second part

PART TWO

[§poyler of part one: Lisa is a character in a telenovela that he couldn't follow because he had given up TV for lent.]
The creators of this telenovela had come up with a nice title, but decided to change it before releasing the show. How come? (No Googlepedia please :) )

Is he a person? If so, an adult? A machine?

Is Lisa a person? An animal? A machine? A fictional person? Is she in a difficult situation? Is she sick? Is she in peril?

Do you know how Lisa is doing? Does he genuinely want to know? Is the question some form of code?

Was "he" a fellow student? Teacher?
I assume that at least one person in the group he addressed knew and was able to give him answers?
Did he not have access to television at all during this time?
Was he physically prevented from watching?
Or was he making the choice not to watch for some reason?

Lent?

Was his reason related to being a teacher? Was he not watching in order to facilitate a class project/assignment? Were the students asked to watch? Were the students expected to know how Lisa was doing? Is the type of class relevant?

Would he normally watch the show for his own entertainment? Would he return to watching it after the few weeks?

I just decided to turn this into a two-tier puzzle, but I can already announce the $poyler for the first part.

********$poyler********

Every year, my Latin teacher would give up TV for lent. Usually, it wasn't much of a big deal, but one year, he was following a popular telenovela. Because he wanted to keep up with the protagonist's adventures, he asked us how she was doing at the beginning of every lesson.

PART TWO

The creators of this telenovela had come up with a nice title, but decided to change it before releasing the show. How come? (No Googlepedia please :) )

Ha, good one!

And for part two:

Was there an unintended double meaning in the title? Might people think the show was something else? Censorship relevant? Did the Spanish words of the title unintentionally mean something in English? Or did it translate poorly?

Did they change titles because they realized it would be offensive? Confusing?
Was there already something else with the same or similar title?
Are other countries or cultures relevant?
Did it use a term or phrase that didn't translate well cross-culturally?

Is it relevant how they discovered the innuendo? Is there a reason they didn't notice it at first beyond just basic oversight?
Was the title alone enough to see the innuendo? If it had been the title of a novel instead, would the effect have been the same?

Did they only realize it after: saying it? Writing it down?
Did they not know it was an innuendo until hearing someone use it in the "inappropiate" way?

Was the title alone enough to see the innuendo? Yes If it had been the title of a novel instead, would the effect have been the same? The innuendo would have been the same, but I think it's somewhat less likely they would have spotted it

Did they only realize it after: saying it? Writing it down? Neither of the two are enough to realize it, you need an extra step
Did they not know it was an innuendo until hearing someone use it in the "inappropiate" way? No, and there might be a slight FA

HINT: Remember that the innuendo was only yesishly in all words in the title

********SPOILER********

The German adaptation of Ugly Betty was originally planned to be called "Alles nur aus Liebe" (Everything just out of love), but the producers decided to change the title to "Verliebt in Berlin" when they realised what the acronym for this title would spell.
