Does she notice something in her car? Her clothing? Other belongings? Her body?

Had she slept in the car?

Does her profession matter? Where she works? The type of vehicle she's in?

A tattoo? A physical blemish? A bruise or injury? A visible change of some sort? Pain? A dent or other impression, as of too-tight clothing?

By "slept," do you mean in the same bed as someone else? Sex involved? Rape? Anything else illegal?

Does she know with whom she slept? Was it HAM? A pet? Other animal? Cat hair involved?

Is it relevant that she is in her car? That she was driving at the time she recognized this? Would she have noticed it if she was driving a different car? If someone else was driving and she was in the back seat?

Is the following timeline correct?
Woman is asleep - cat scratches her - woman wakes up - drives to work - works - drives back from work - notices the scratch while driving

Does she take different routes to and from work? relevant?
Does she work indoors? outdoors?
Does she relevantly use her hands at work? Does she work with animals? If so, cats?

Does she notice the injury by making a certain hand movement? by touching something?
Relevant where on her hand the injury is?

Did she take food from the restaurant with her? In order to eat it on the way home? So, she was eating food with hot sauce while driving, some of which dropped on her hand and caused the cat scratch to hurt?

****SPOILER****

My sister works at a sandwich shop. A few days ago, after her shift, she bought a sandwich and ate it while driving home. Some of the hot sauce from the sandwich dripped on her hand, causing a small scratch she hadn't seen to hurt. She realized the family cat must have crawled in bed with her while she slept the previous night and scratched the back of her hand.

She was also the one who originally presented this puzzle to me; I tweaked it a bit for the forum.

Nice rapid three-person solve, Doriana, GalFisk, and Jen!
