(Grip) Turn It Over First

Postby Grip » Tue Mar 28, 2017 5:52 pm

A woman is given a piece of paper. She is overjoyed. When she gets home she turns the piece of paper over and is enraged. She seeks out the man who gave her the paper and proceeds to beat him up. Why?

Is there text on the paper? Does she at first see one side of the paper? And then the other side? Is the paper a fake bill? Another faked document? If she had turned the paper over when first given it, would she have become enraged right then? Beaten him up then?

Did the man who gave her the piece of paper do so as part of his job? If so, does he work in health care? law enforcement? education? administration? retail?

Is the woman's job relevant? Was the paper given to her as part of her job?

Is there text on both sides?

Is the text on side A (the one she sees first) printed? handwritten? Was it written by the man?
Is the text on side B printed? handwritten? Was it written by the man?

Is the text on side B somehow offensive? Does it contradict the text on side B?

Do the man and the woman know each other? Are they friends? In a relationship? Formerly in a relationship? Enemies? Are they related? If so, mother and son? father and daughter? siblings? cousins? something-in-law?

Does the man give the woman the piece of paper at his home? at a public place? at someone else's home?

Does the man also give pieces of paper to other people?

Does the man relevantly say anything to the woman when he gives her the piece of paper?

Did she pay for the paper?

Is there a picture on side A? Is it a photograph? Or does she think it to be a work of original art? And the back side reveals it to be from a department store or something?

Does the other side also have a picture? Or just text? Is she excited because she thinks she has purchased something valuable? Something useful? Something historical? Something unique? Something made by a particular person?

Is it a drawing? A painting? Something printed?

Does she expect the other side to have a picture? And is angry that it does not?
Does the back reveal that it is a reproduction?
I assume she beats him up because she realizes it is in fact not valuable? Not historical? Not unique?
Is it (or does it appear to be) old currency? A stamp? A baseball card?

***** SPOILER *****

The paper in question is a reproduction of the ultra rare T-206 Honus Wagner tobacco/baseball card. The man is a con artist who sold the card to a woman who is a big sports enthusiast as the genuine article. It was quite pricey, but nowhere near as much as the usual going rate for the real thing which was of course one of the selling points of the con. This man was so good that he had convinced the normally very astute woman it was genuine.

When she got home after forking over the considerable sum, suspicion and a closer examination of the lithograph of Wagner led her to believe it was fake. She removed it from its protective glass and turned it over to reveal the reproduction copyright on the back.

The lady's interest in sports extended to her receiving training in boxing and other martial arts, so she sought out the con artist at his usual places and proceeded to reacquire her money.
