What he did helped us win but what he did prevented him from speaking about what he did. What did he do?

Are all three "what he did" statements referring to essentially the same thing?

Helped us win: a war? A political race? An argument? A court case? A sports match? Another type of game?

Is he physically able so say what he did?
If no, did the process of invention render him temporarily incapable of speech? Affect his brain? Deafen him?
Is it the case that, even if he said it, no one would hear him? If so, because he is alone? Because he is in a loud environment?
Is his physical location relevant? Is there a language barrier? Is he imprisoned or held captive somehow?

Is he unable to speak about what he did because: radar exists? Specifically because he invented it? Because he is famous for inventing it? Because the Ally defense was successful in the battle of Britain? Because the Allies won the war?

* * * SPOILER * * *

Let's put this one to bed.

Sir Robert Watson-Watt was the leading pioneer in the development of radar, which helped the Allies win the war.

After the war he was on his way to speak about his invention at a conference in Canada when he was stopped for speeding by a policeman who was using a radar gun. The irony of the situation was not lost on him. He wrote a short poem about it.

A good old puzzle I recall from one of your books. I'd have kept at it if you hadn't told me the answer over the table, but I might have had to stop when I got close... This might actually be a good choice at work, since Miami is one of those places where it's hell to drive and the teens do have run-ins with the cops - they'll "get it."
