Postby WiZ » Tue May 09, 2017 9:17 pm

A poor young woman chooses to spend a lot of money on a book. The book is commonly available. She takes it home and, as she intended, destroys it that very same day. Why?

Is the book collectible such as a first edition? Is it signed by the author? Does she know the author? Is this a protest? Does the word 'chooses' in the puzzle statement mean she chose to buy the book? or she chose to pay a lot of money for it?

Could she have done this with any book or just the one she bought? Is there something unusual about it? The cover? Is it dedicated to her? Would it help to find out what the book is about?

Does she use the torn pages in any way? Is she a struggling artist?

Is she distributing the pages somehow? Does she want people to do something with the pages?

Does she want to benefit her family? a friend? Other women in her situation?

Does she know beforehand who would approve of her actions and who would not?
Or does she want to check by her actions?

Is she a student? If so, is the book one of her textbooks? Or her thesis?

Is she sending the parts of the book to random people? Or does she select them? Does she care who gets which particular part?

Inspired by the previous questions: was she a student buying a textbook to share the pages to other poor students who couldn't afford the book, and only needed certain parts of it? Other people in her class/school or just other students in general?

Is she putting the pages on display somewhere? In the library?

Is she protesting that the students are not given a script, but have to buy the expensive book?

Is she putting the pages on display somewhere? noish In the library? no

Is she protesting that the students are not given a script, but have to buy the expensive book? yes; her actions are a reaction against this

GalFisk

Are the pages she gives away copied? yes! Is she paid for the pages? yes! Edit: is she circumventing some rule or law? she's certainly breaking one, at least :)

***** SPOILER *****

She was a student who bought an expensive class-assigned textbook. She tore out each individual page, scanned them, and made a PDF of the textbook which she sold to her classmates for $5. She then shredded the evidence.

Congratulations to GalFisk and LemonCurry on the solution, and everyone else for some astute questions. Not all heroes wear capes, it appears.
