[WiZ] Occupation? Nope, just here for a visit.

Postby WiZ » Mon May 29, 2017 3:49 am

During the course of his adult life, a man decides to change professions. He eventually lands the job of his dreams, and is deeply satisfied. He looks forward to beginning this new career.

The morning of his first day on the job, before he has talked to anyone, consumed any mass media, or even reached his workplace, he begins to weep uncontrollably in anguish.

He is a strong man, not given to being overwhelmed by emotion or sentiment. What prompted his reaction?

Has he received any unpleasant (or worse) information from someone in a form other than verbal communication? When he starts to weep, has he left his residence? Is he partway on his way to work? Has something happened that is preventing him from getting to work? Has he had a realization about his job? His family? Friends? Is it relevant what the job of his dreams is? What his old job was? Why he decided to change professions in the first place?

Is he weeping due to physical anguish?

Death: Did he risk to die? no Someone else? no - there is no relevant risk to someone else His wife? His son/daughter?Had he got a dream during night? no Did he see something relevant? yes He discovered something? yesish An object? no Electricity/electronic relevant? no

Where he began to weep relevant? yes During the travel to workplace? no At his house? yes Someone else's house? no Hospital? no

He decided to change workplace for having a low salary? incorrect Not in line with firm's politics? no Was his own decision to change profession? yes Someone else's? no Crazy hours? no No time for his family? no

Has he consumed any media that would be considered outside of mass media? Or do you mean simply that he hasn't participated in reading/viewing/hearing any news-based stuff of any sort?

Would he normally have consumed mass media prior to leaving for work? Relevant? Was he now unable to do so? Is the man, at the time of his weeping, fit, healthy, and physically normal? Does he think he is? Is the thing that he is weeping over something that has happened/is happening to him? To another family member? Does he relevantly have a twin? A conjoined one?

He saw something relevant. Was it on his body? On the body of someone with whom he lives? Did he see a dead body?

Is he going to be unable to perform his new job now? If he had been about to start any other job that required the same changes to his routine, would he still have started weeping having done/seen whatever he did/saw at home? Did he have to relocate for this new job? May I invoke the LTPF list of professions for his new job? Or would that give too much away? Is the reason for his new job being available relevant?

Thanks WIZ!

So, did he need to relocate? To move from his place of origin? and when he woke up he did not see something relevant that instead was present in his place of origin? Relevant the conformation of his house? Apartment?Duplex?Did he live with someone? His family?Wife?Relevant? Was someone else of his family forced to change job?Forced to do something?

Began weeping at his house: relevant in which room?Bathroom?Kitchen?Bedroom? While he was waking? While doing a relevant action? For instance breakfast, setting up, preparing himself for reaching his place of job? Did he relevantly open a window? A curtain?Weather relevant?Sunny?Windy?Snowy?Cold?Hot?

Workplace: an office?an airplane?a restaurant?Far from his house?Relevant?Did he know how to reach his workplace?Did he intend to go to his workplace first ?Or to another relevant place?Did he feel "lost"?

Relevant medical conditions?Did he suffer from relevant diseases?Someone else?Mental diseases?Physical ones?

Has he slept the previous night? If not: noises relevant?Relevant?Relevant in which part of the day/night he works?

So death is an aspect of his new job, correct? In the sense that there is a risk for someone to die when the actions relative to this job are performed?Or that performers work closely with death? I mean also archeologists with mummies, doctors...Did he discovered a skeleton? Did he suspect to see that something?Did he see this relevant thing just in the morning?Or already during the night?Relevant?

Did he decide to change his previous job because: it was too far from his family? From his home?Did he work with someone relevant in his previous job?Did he give up to some benefit (for him?for someone else?) in leaving his previous job?In accepting the new one?

Is he going to be unable to perform his new job now? no If he had been about to start any other job that required the same changes to his routine, would he still have started weeping having done/seen whatever he did/saw at home? yes; there is a reason he chose the career he did, though, that relates to other factors in the puzzle Did he have to relocate for this new job? no May I invoke the LTPF list of professions for his new job? no Or would that give too much away? yes (also, it can be figured out based on the other elements of the puzzle) Is the reason for his new job being available relevant? no; availability is not a concern

Earnest

So, did he need to relocate? no To move from his place of origin? no and when he woke up he did not see something relevant that instead was present in his place of origin? no (but part of this guess is very much on the right track) Relevant the conformation of his house? no Apartment?Duplex? n/a Did he live with someone? irrelevant His family?Wife?Relevant? n/a to all Was someone else of his family forced to change job?Forced to do something? no to these

Did he discovered a skeleton? no Did he suspect to see that something? yes (I assume you're referring to the thing he sees that triggers his reaction) Did he see this relevant thing just in the morning? yes Or already during the night? no Relevant? yes

Is the twin the "family member" that something is happening to? Is the twin male? Female? Are they identical? Fraternal? Does the twin have the same job? Is the twin's job relevant? Is the twin alive? Does he know bout the twin's existence the whole time? Are genetic conditions relevant? Anything about their childhood relevant?

Is the job working at a morgue? Funeral home? Obituaries relevant? Did he choose the job because of his twin?

Was he looking in a mirror?

So is the twin dead? Does the twin live with him? Is he just learning that his twin is dead? Or did he already know that? Does he make the job change because his twin died? To cope with the death? Does he weep because when he looks into the mirror, he is essentially seeing his dead brother?

So the twin died. In childhood? Recently? Relevant how old the twin was when he died? Did the main guy realize that he would/might die in the same way the twin died? Did he always know they were twins? Identical twins?

Relevant how the twin died? Disease? Other medical issue? Murder? Suicide? Accident? Fire? War? Does the man's job involve preventing deaths such as his twin's death?

In the mirror: did he notice something on his face? Head? Torso? Arms? Hands? Clothing? Something else reflected in the mirror? Is it a full-length mirror? Has he looked in this mirror before? Does he need to look in the mirror in order to do his job? Does he look relevantly different from the way he did before? Could he have predicted that he would weep uncontrollably that morning?

Is he an actor?

Can we call the guy Jim? Can we call the twin Tim?

Something else reflected in the mirror? no to rest Is it a full-length mirror? irrelevant Has he looked in this mirror before? yes Does he need to look in the mirror in order to do his job? strictly speaking no, but under the circumstances it was almost certain he would Does he look relevantly different from the way he did before? yes! Was Tim under 20 when he died? Twenties? Thirties? Forties? Is it relevant that he was not that much younger than Jim currently is?

So Jim's new job involves preventing murder? Is he (now) a police officer? Detective? Some sort of activist? Is anything about Tim's murderer(s) relevant? Relevant why they murdered him? Did Jim murder Tim?

Did Jim shave? Was this necessary for his job? Did this make him look more like Tim?

Was Tim under 20 when he died? Twenties? Thirties? Forties? these are the three most likely decades Is it relevant that he was not that much younger than Jim currently is? yes

So Jim's new job involves preventing murder? Is he (now) a police officer? yes! Detective? Some sort of activist? no to rest Is anything about Tim's murderer(s) relevant? no Relevant why they murdered him? no Did Jim murder Tim? no

Did Jim shave? yes! Was this necessary for his job? yes!! Did this make him look more like Tim? yes!!!

***** SPOILER *****

At some time in his adult life, Jim's identical twin brother Tim was the victim of a murder. This turn of events prompted Jim to undergo training to become a police officer, to make the world a safer place.

Throughout adulthood, Jim and Tim had one key physical difference: Jim wore a beard and Tim did not. Jim's new role on the force obliged him to shave. When he looked in the mirror, it was the face of Tim that looked back.

Very well done, Hominid, and some excellent questions from Hobbsicle, Earnest and others.
