[peter365] So Often Ignored

Postby peter365 » Thu Oct 05, 2017 9:12 am

Hi there friends and fellow puzzle pugilists

A caller to a radio phone-in comes to someone's defence by passionately stating the person's age. This causes much hilarity in the studio. Why so?

Early spoilers and all that.......

Hi!someone = H/AM? H/A/F? Relevant the gender?
Someone age relevant? Was he/she old? Young? A child? Did he/she told something that was premature for his/her age? Something inappropriate?

Is a pun with the age relevant?

Same for the caller--HAM? Gender relevant?

Does the caller state his/her own age? The age of someone he/she knows? The age of someone in the studio? The age of someone famous?

Is the caller making the point that someone is old enough for _________? That someone is just plain old? That someone is young?

Is this funny to the studio people because the age stated is not as old/young as the caller thinks it is?

Did the caller actually say the exact number of the age? Did the caller say the correct number?
Does the person being defended hear the defense?
Is the person being defended a famous person? Is the caller?

Same for the caller--HAM? Gender relevant? He too is an adult male , his gender is somewhat relevant but I wouldn't fixate on it.

Does the caller state his/her own age? No The age of someone he/she knows? Yesish in so far as we know someone famous. He doesn't know him personally. The age of someone in the studio? The age of someone famous? This

Is the caller making the point that someone is old enough for _________? That someone is just plain old? That someone is young? This one

Is this funny to the studio people because the age stated is not as old/young as the caller thinks it is? No

Does the person being defended hear the defense? I doubt it , he may well have heard it subsequently
Is the person being defended a famous person? Yes but not world famous Is the caller? No , but when you hear the solution you may feel he should be.

so the topic of the day was the famous person? And the caller defended the famous person just stating "Hey, he is twenty-eight"? or "Hey, he is JUST twenty-eight
"? or "Hey, he is ALREADY twenty-eight"? Did the caller just stated the famous person's age?

Was it to justify something done by the famous person? Did they talk about the private life of the famous person? His engagement with a girl? The fact that he lives with his parents? Something about his job? Is the famous person a singer? An actor? A sportive?

Was the age irrelevant to the thing the caller was defending? For example, was he defending the fact that he committed a crime, which would be bad at any age?

Was he defending a specific action of the famous person? Was he disputing the idea that the famous person is bad at whatever he does?

Was the age irrelevant to the thing the caller was defending? Difficult to answer, the caller thought it was but he was very much mistaken. For example, was he defending the fact that he committed a crime, which would be bad at any age? Nothing like this

Was he defending a specific action of the famous person? No Was he disputing the idea that the famous person is bad at whatever he does? Yesish , very much on the right track

Are most soccer players already past their prime at 28? No they're not, and this was the point the caller was trying to make. However nobody has suggested the player was past their prime, so why did he say it?

Were they discussing a trait of the player referring to experience? Like calling him a veteran?

Had they discussed the soccer player at all before? Or did the caller only think so?

Was the caller mistaken on a single word? He thought meant the Player? He thought meant something like "old/ past his prime"?

Were they discussing a trait of the player referring to experience? No Like calling him a veteran? No

Had they discussed the soccer player at all before? No the caller threw his name into the pot Or did the caller only think so? The caller was phoning in on a general football related topic. He suggested the player might be the answer, then cue hilarity

Was the caller mistaken on a single word? He makes two critical mistakes. One of which is mistaking one word for another He thought meant the Player? He thought meant something like "old/ past his prime"? This one

Does the player play for a team in [above options]?
Is the player particularly good? Particularly bad?
Is he perceived by the caller as [above options]? By the radio host(s)?

Is the player Irish? English? German? Italian? French? Spanish? From another European country? This From South America? From North America?
Does the player play for a team in [above options]? He plays for a club team in Scotland
Is the player particularly good? He's pretty good, well the caller thinks so anyway Particularly bad?
Is he perceived by the caller as [above options]? See above By the radio host(s)? They're ambivalent because of the irrelevance of how well he's playing

I need to ban 'LTPF list of european countries' for this one I'm afraid.

Was the team mentioned by the radio show hosts? The country? Is anything else about the player relevant?

Did the caller think the hosts were calling for the player to retire? To be sold? To be not in the lineup?

"He's Finnish" vs "He's finished"? Something like that? No , not something like that, exactly that.

******************SPOILER****************

This is probably the most famous ever radio phone in moment over this side of the water. A Scottish football phone in was discussing the national team's poor performances , there was a feeling at the time that English based players were being picked ahead of Scottish based ones and that this was the problem.

A supporter of Heart of Midlothian (an Edinburgh team) rang in to list Hearts players that he felt would improve things if selected. All was going well until ....(please read in scottish accent)

Caller: ' And then there's Antti Niemi.
Host: Antti Niemi?
Caller: Aye
Host: For Scotland ?
Caller: Aye
Host: Antti Niemi's from Finland
Caller: Wha?
Host: He's finnish
Caller: He's no' finished he's only 28.

Cue gales of laughter in the studio.

There's a you-tube clip of this but it I think it's even funnier written down.

Well done Balin
