[Balin] Now departing...

Postby Balin » Wed Jan 10, 2018 2:34 am

After hanging out with friends, a teenage boy is watching a movie. An hour into the film, he turns it off, runs out the door, and drives away as fast as he can. What's going on?

Is he watching it at home? On TV? VCR? DVD? Computer? Online? Country relevant? Other people relevant? Time of day relevant?

Is he afraid of something? Has he just realized something? Is he in danger? One of his friends in danger?

Is the specific film relevant? The genre? Does he see something in the film (or hear a line of dialogue therein) that brings him to this realisation? During an advertisement? Does he have somewhere else to be? Has he forgotten to do something? Is he driving to another specific place as quickly as possible, or trying to distance himself from his house as quickly as possible?

Did he see his principal's face in the scree - nope, wrong teenage boy running for his life, never mind.

Relevant that he was hanging out with friends before watching the movie?

Did he watch the movie continuously for all the time? Did he do another thing while watching the movie? Did he talk to someone?

Did he remember something he had forgotten? Relevant what he did with his friends? Are other people than him and his friends relevant? Any siblings of his?

Did he see someone on the film that made him react that way? Did he know that person? In real life?

The realisation - did it change everything? A significant thing? His perception?

What the timeline relevant? Such as, the date the movie was made? One or more of the actors was dead IRL? Something else relevant regarding one or more of the actors? An identity-related thing?

No Does he have somewhere else to be? No Has he forgotten to do something? No Is he driving to another specific place as quickly as possible, or trying to distance himself from his house as quickly as possible? He's driving to a specific place

Did he see his principal's face in the scree - nope, wrong teenage boy running for his life, never mind. I had that puzzle in mind when formulating this puzzle statement. Also, No.

Relevant that he was hanging out with friends before watching the movie? Yes

Did he watch the movie continuously for all the time? Yes Did he do another thing while watching the movie? Irrel, assume No Did he talk to someone? No

Did he remember something he had forgotten? No/Noish Relevant what he did with his friends? Not so much Are other people than him and his friends relevant? Yes Any siblings of his? No

Did he see someone on the film that made him react that way? No Did he know that person? In real life? So No to these

The realisation - did it change everything? A significant thing? I'll give this a tentative Yes His perception?

What the timeline relevant? Yes Such as, the date the movie was made? One or more of the actors was dead IRL? Something else relevant regarding one or more of the actors? An identity-related thing? But No to these

Is it important that he was watching a film? Could the realisation have happened had he been reading a book? Eating a pizza? Trying to take a nap? Doing some exercise?
Did he started watching the film immediately after hanging out with friends? The same day?
Was he driving toward his friends? Towards another person?

So is it relevant that he was watching a film at all? Was it the film in combination with something else which caused him to dash off? Were drugs or alcohol involved? Was he in his right mind?

Is he driving fast because he's late? Because someone's waiting for him? Because something might happen if he' arrives later? Because he enjoys driving fast? Because he's being chased? Because he thinks it's cool to drive fast? Is he driving a car? Motorcycle? Bicycle? Relevant? Is the other person a love interest? Friend? Enemy? Is the other person angry? Anxious? Waiting?

Is he driving towards a friend? a familiar? Do you mean "a family member"? If so, Yes. If not... well, you now know it's family other type of acquittance? a stranger?

Has he lost or forgotten something? Yope Is the reason for this whole escapade a whoever, a whatever, an event or something else? Mostly a what Is he scared, hungry, excited, hopeful? I'd describe it as "OH CRAP" - so "scared" is probably close Is how he feels relevant? I think it could help

Is he driving fast because he's late? Because someone's waiting for him? Because something might happen if he arrives later? b]This[/b] Because he enjoys driving fast? Because he's being chased? Because he thinks it's cool to drive fast?
Is he driving a car? This Motorcycle? Bicycle? Relevant? Yes
Is the other person a love interest? Friend? Enemy? See above

Yes, I meant family member. But it is good to know no witches are involved! (As you can imagine, English is not my first language)

Was he going to pick up his family member from somewhere? hospital? airport? train station? school? mall?
Is it relevant where did he hang out with his friends? at his house?
is the family member his mother? father? brother? sister? grandfather? grandmother?

If he arrives later, could something happen to him? To someone else? To the car? To another object? Is closing time at some place relevant?

Trying to put pieces together:
He was hanging with his friends in or near the mall. When he finished, he took his parents car from the parking lot without thinking much about it and drove home (as he had probably done several times other days). Once in home, after a while, he realised he had not taken the car from home to go to the mall! His parents must have been there and he didn't think about it. Now he must go back, before police gets involved.

****SPOILER****

As seen on Reddit. Don't think I need to add any more details than wwhere's summary.
Very well done.
