[invisiblemimsy] Making History

Postby invisiblemimsy » Sun Apr 29, 2018 10:00 pm

Paul did some science.
Carl didn't want to do science.
Carl got Ivor to do science.
Carl went to jail.

Paul, Carl and Ivor = H/A/M

Is there a causal connection between the four events?

Is the relationship between them relevant? If so: Familial? Are they co-workers? Students/teachers? Co-conspirators?

Has Carl been punished for a crime? That he is guilty of?

Are they all doing the same kind of science? Physics? Chemistry? Biology? Psychology? Social science?

Is the science involved in a criminal act? Drug manufacture? Forgery? Poisoning? Mutilation? Pollution? Vandalism? Are animals involved?

Would Carl have gone to jail if he did it himself? Would anyone else have? Testing something on someone? Did Ivor die? Or get hurt? Did Carl give him something illegal? Did Carl want to see what happened if the same thing was tried, but just didn't want to do it himself?

Can this be a real life situation? It seems to be taken by a Marvel cartoon xD

So timeline...Paul did some science = in the past w.r.t. Carl? Did Paul conducted some studies that allowed Carl to study the phenomenon? If so, many time before? Years? Centuries? Or days? Seconds? Minutes?

Are injections relevant? Did Ivor go to jail? If not, because he died before? Because he was part of the experiment? Because he escaped? Others?
Is organs trafficking involved? Was Carl arrested right? Relevant when he was arrested? I mean...was Carl caught while doing something relevant? In possession of certain substances? He was gollowed by police? He declared publically that he was in charge of the happenings? Someone witnessed? Ivor witnessed? Are dead bodies relevant? Did Carl try to sell something illegally? Make profits illegally? Inhect a substance in his body? Others?

Did they work in an hospital?...with the previous qyestion I meant if the like stealed dead bodies from an hospital for instance...were the dead bodies "fresh"? Are we talking about modern times? Would it works with skeletons? Bodies died from years? Is the substance needed to be tested on skin? Would it work with "non death bodies"? If not, because alive people would have never accepted to do the test?

Are the tests medical? Is the substance tested burned/burning? Is it used to burn bodies? To transform them in a state different from the solid one (e.g. acid)? Was the substance used on dead bodies? To attract animals? Is the substance going to be sold? Is the substance legal? Did they invent it? is the substance liquid? Gas? Posionous?

Oh I see...so...Carl killed someone...were the dead bodies part of the test? If so were them the 2 dead bodies to which you previously referred? Again..if so relevant their sex? HAM? HAF? One HAF and one HAM? Childrens? Teens? One adult and one teen? Relevant their characteristics? Relevant how Carl killed them? Did he kill them with a weapon? With a virus (e.g. contaminating them?)? Forensic tests = test done on dead humans for applying them to loving human beings? Tests on a relevant part of the dead bodies? If so list of body parts, please.

Substance is a wrong word...so is it an object? Electricity relevant? Energy in general relevant? Energy power? Were parts of the dead bodies cut? Is the substance something present in nature? Did they put the dead body somewhere relevantly? (E.g. in a room with vaccum? With no gravity? In a special box?...)

So before I mean "living" instead of "loving" sorry for the typo...

Anyway...is the seam of the labia relevant? I read about this brutal practice recently and wondering wheather the puzzle is referring to it...African countries relevant? Religion?

Is "sexual act" somehow involved here? Preventing the sexual act? Women discrimination? Is it relevant the fact that they test on teens? If so, because teens were supposed to be virgin? Did they test on teens that were virgins? Not virgins? Is it a sort of practicing for performing it on alive teens? ...ok...strange question...is peeing relevant? I mean...had other tests been made before? If so, relevant their result? Were they made on dead bodies? On teens who were alive and died due to the tests?

No need to be sorry...better to exclude something...

So...sexual act involved...so...set of strange questions...sex act that Carl or Ivor performed before killing the teens? Sex act after having killed them? Sexual act in the sense that they are testing something to use it during sexual acts? Are condoms involved? ...well...so is an horrifing thought but since we are in let's try it...is it something like "Carl or Ivor are allowed to make sex without condoms with death girls"?...I mean...sorry for that terrifying image but I've heard in the past about someone doing those kind of brutal things...hope this is not the case...

Are the tests on vagina superficial? Inside it? Putting a "substance inside it"?

Is semen relevant? Human semen?
So Carl has sexual acts with the two teens...with condom? Were the teens willing to have sec with him? Were them forced to? Was Carl able to have children? Was carl ill someohow? ...anyway they = Carl and Ivor...

Is Ivor the one putting the something inside vaginas? Had they invented sonething relevant?(inspired by the title)...did they put inside the vagina sonething that usually women put inside it (e.g. tampons...) menstrual flow relevant?

So making history means something like "realizing what someone had just theorized?" Or lotrally making history by experimenting something that had never been tested before?

Contraceptives relevant? Is Carl semen in the teens vaginas? Did they actually put something in vaginas or throw something away from it? Is the substance the semen? Was it necessary to kill the teens because: a) to avoid them to go and tell to have been abused? b) to avoid to have children with the teens? c) for the purposes of the experiment? d) other reasons? e) a mixture of the above? If so mainly a), b), c) or d)?

Did they want to see wheather life can be generated inside dead bodies? Does the test last one day? Nine months? More? (Test = test and results of it...same question with the test without the results)

You need to work out who does what, and when. Bear in mind the order everything occurs in is as above, i.e. 1)Paul 2)Carl 3)Ivor 4)Carl. Also, try to establish at what point the girls die.

The FA is that the substance is not Carl's semen? Someone else's semen? Semen of Carl in both the teens?
Did the girl die before Carl's orgasm? After? During? Was the semen put in the teens vaginas through the sexual act? In an artificial way? Would it work with any kind of teen? Relevant that they were two teens? Were them related? Were them twins (I was about to write tween xD)? Related to Carl?

Had the test some physical implications also on Carl? Was the test performed at the end? Does our society make use of the something tested? If so thanks to those crazy esperiments?

Was the something tested and invented by Paul something that applied to vaginas specifically?
I mean...had Paul invented it for being "used" on vaginas? On tha male counterpart of vaginas? If one of the two, for self pleasure? Other medical purposes? Was Paul a doctor? Was the sonething he invented an object? Is it a micro robot implanted on male semen? Is it a modification of male semen? Is it something related to sex?

Earnest wrote:The FA is that the substance is not Carl's semen? Someone else's semen? Semen of Carl in both the teens? No, that's not the FA. Carl's semen is relevant. However, there is another 'substance' which we're looking for, although 'substance' is not the best word for it. 'Characteristic' might be better.
Did the girl die before Carl's orgasm? After? This, but irrel During? Was the semen put in the teens vaginas through the sexual act? yes In an artificial way? Would it work with any kind of teen? yes Relevant that they were two teens? the fact that there were two teens is not relevant to the puzzle, however historically there were two. Were them related? Yes If so thanks to those crazy esperiments? FA - the experiments weren't crazy. The only experiments were done by Paul.

Was the something tested and invented by Paul something that applied to vaginas specifically? In this case the 2 girls' vaginas, yes... though in general it could be applied to other body parts too.

One of the more unusual puzzles on the LTPF, it certainly seems

So, Paul invented a drug? one applied topically? or a medical procedure?

Some time after that, Carl "didn't want to do science"? meaning he didn't want to test some teens' vaginas for something? didn't want to use what Paul had invented?

Ivor performed a test? using what Paul had invented? on the vaginas of teen girls? This revealed that Carl had sexually assaulted them?

Is the thing invented by Paul used for disinfecting the skin? treating some other kind of skin disease or condition (e.g. warts, burns, cuts, etc.)? Or is it simply used to test for the presence of something?

Relevant the branch of biology/medicine/scienxe he was specialized into? If so list of branches...is it a sort of medical test? TAC? Magnetic resonance? Others? Is Paul's invebtion used in all branches of medicine? Just inside hospitals? Also outside? For every day purposes not involving health?

Ivor had the test performed on him = is it something visible? Something visible by human eyes without the help of machinaries (opposite to a TAC/ something involving a fluo substance inside ivor visible just through certain types of tests/something else...)? Was it necessary that teens had Carl's semen inside their vaginas? Could it have been also someone else's semen? Ivor semen? Is the test a vaccine? Something to detect the presence of a child/of a tumor/of an external mass in human's body?
Were Carl and Ivor forced to do the test?

For every day purposes not involving health? These days there are lots of uses for this invention/procedure, but back when he discovered it, there was only one use AFAIK

Ivor had the test performed on him = is it something visible? Yes Something visible by human eyes without the help of machinaries the result is visible with the naked eye (opposite to a TAC/ something involving a fluo substance inside ivor visible just through certain types of tests/something else...)? N/A Was it necessary that teens had Carl's semen inside their vaginas? Yes, very much so Could it have been also someone else's semen? In theory,
but it wasn't
Ivor semen? No, and this is the point... explore Is the test a vaccine? no Something to detect the presence of a child/of a tumor/of an external mass in human's body? no, BUWT
Were Carl and Ivor forced to do the test? This is extremely relevant, explore

Babies relevant at all? Genetic diseases? Had Carl committed some crime a part from having killed the teens? Had Ivor? Is an attempt of changing some genetic trait done here? Were Carl and Ivor escaping? Fingerprints relevant? Has Ivor a specific generic trait? Did they want the police to discover the bodies with Carl's semen in it? Did they know the scientific police would have analysed the semen inside the vaginas? Is the semen inside the vaginas part of the test? Does the procedure here involved make use of blood? Blood tests relevant? DNA? If so of the girls? Of ivor? Of Carl? Relevant how the semen of Carl in girls' vaginas is related to the test Ivor had applied on him? Is the "procedure" something invasive (had Ivor something inside himself?)? Is Ivor sterile?

Genetic = for this puzzle mainly some trait (e.g. almond eyes, black skin, red head, white skin, albinism, color of eyes, color of hairs, some genetic disease, something that could be tranferred genetically?)?

Yes, the specific thing he did here was illegal Is an attempt of changing some genetic trait done here? OTRT Were Carl and Ivor escaping? Carl hoped to Fingerprints relevant? no Has Ivor a specific generic trait? Well, we are all unique... possible FA Did they want the police to discover the bodies with Carl's semen in it? Carl DIDN’T but Ivor was unaware Did they know the scientific police would have analysed the semen inside the vaginas? Yes Is the semen inside the vaginas part of the test? Very much so Does the procedure here involved make use of blood? not on this occasion, but in general it often is Blood tests relevant? ditto DNA? Yes, exactly If so of the girls? irrel Of ivor? Of Carl? Both Ivor’s and Carl’s DNA is relevant here Relevant how the semen of Carl in girls' vaginas is related to the test Ivor had applied on him? Yes Is the "procedure" something invasive (had Ivor something inside himself?)? Well, it was a blood test, so the needle was somewhat invasive. Is Ivor sterile? Neither of them are sterile

Genetic = for this puzzle mainly some trait (e.g. almond eyes, black skin, red head, white skin, albinism, color of eyes, color of hairs, some genetic disease, something that could be tranferred genetically?)? None of these traits are relevant; the DNA code itself is very relevant.

Was Ivor aware of being part of the test? Did he want to? Was him fooled by Carl? Was Carl attempting to confound police with Ivor DNA? Blood transfusions relevant? Carl and Ivor blood were mixed? Is Ivor part of the test that if succeeded Carl would have applied on himself? Is blood taken away from Ivor? Is blood "put inside" ivor? Both? If so blood of different people? Did Carl want the semen to be mixed up with blood?

Blood spinning relevant?

Earnest wrote:Was Ivor aware of being part of the test? Yes Did he want to? "Want" is putting a bit strongly, but he was OK with it. Was him fooled by Carl? Yes - Carl convinced him to take the test by telling Ivor a lie Was Carl attempting to confound police with Ivor DNA? Yes, exactly Blood transfusions relevant? no Carl and Ivor blood were mixed? Not "mixed together", but deliberately "mixed up" Is Ivor part of the test that if succeeded Carl would have applied on himself? Yes Is blood taken away from Ivor? yes Is blood "put inside" ivor? no Both? If so blood of different people? Blood of Ivor and Carl, although blood of other people is relevant to the DNA tests too Did Carl want the semen to be mixed up with blood? Not sure what you mean by this, but testing blood would give the same results as testing semen, i.e. the blood DNA would either match, or not match, the semen inside the girls. Blood spinning relevant? Irrel

You've got it, pretty much, so I'll just put it in order for you...

**********$POILER*************************************

This case literally made history.

Carl = Colin Pitchfork, the murderer
Ivor = Ian Kelly, the stooge
Paul = Alec Jeffreys, the scientist.

In 1983, a girl was raped and murdered in the area of Narborough, Leicestershire. A semen sample was taken but this only narrowed it down to 10% of males. In 1986, the killer raped and murdered another girl. By now, Alec Jeffreys had discovered a method to extract DNA from blood and semen, although it had not yet been used in a criminal/forensic setting. The police decided to test the blood of every man within a certain radius. Colin Pitchfork knew that his blood would be a match to the semen.

One of Colin's workmates, Ian Kelly, lived outside of the area so was exempt from being tested. Colin convinced Ian to pretend to be him, and take the test for him. He gave Ian a plausible reason why he couldn't take the test himself. Of course Ian's test came back negative, and so Colin was 'off the hook'. However, later an overheard conversation in the pub was reported to the police, who caught up with Carl. Carl went to prison.

Well done Earnest for the solve, and to everyone else who took part :D

Thanks Earnest. I seem to pose puzzles which I think are straightforward but aren't. It doesn't help that I already know the answer!

That's the beauty of the LPTF...what is straightforward for someone is not for someone else :) so please carry on doing also those type of puzzles! They are very interesting and useful
