Adam loses something that he was attached to. He does not tell his parents for three days. The next day, he tells them, and he is rewarded. The day after that, he is punished. What had happened, and what did he lose?

Adam = HCM?
'Loses' as in 'mislays', or as in 'loses his hair'? Literally attached? Or just fond of something?
Is the 3 days relevant? Could it be another number of days?
Was there something preventing him from telling them sooner? E.g. he was staying with his grandma at the time?
Did he get rewarded under false pretences? Did he lie?

Albeit he didn't lie... did he withhold information, or fail to mention something, or let them assume something that wasn't true? Did he lose... hair, tooth, earwax, limb, other body part? Did he tell the truth? Did he let them assume something? Did he lose the thing deliberately?

Is the tooth fairy relevant? Is he punished for the same reason he is rewarded? Does he do this to find out if the tooth fairy is real?

So he loses a tooth, but doesn’t tell his parents. He waits to see if the tooth fairy turns up but she doesn’t. After 3 days he shows the parents the tooth...?
Was it his own tooth, or the cat’s?

He was rewarded = the parents gave him money? Was him rewarded by parents? (E.g. money secretly during night?) Was the lost of the tooth coincident with Christmas? Did he stop beliving in the fairy? Was him punished for the same reason he was rewarded? Did he lose another tooth? Naturally? Did he steal money? Did he do something related with teeth?

Does he find out that the tooth fairy is not real? Do his parents punish him? Do they reward him y giving him tooth fairy money? Is the punishment related to: money? Teeth? The tooth fairy? Childhood beliefs? Not telling his parents when he lost the tooth?

Did he lose the tooth in the normal fashion, i.e. it was a baby tooth which fell out, or did he knock it out? Did they then pay him directly, or did he have to leave it under his pillow for the 'tooth fairy' to swap it for a coin? Had he already tried that 3 nights ago? Did he use the same trick twice? Was it his own tooth, a friend's, the dog's? Was there just one tooth involved? Did he find his parent's old tooth stash and use one of those (which had already been paid for previously?)

***** SPOILER *****

The precocious, skeptical young lad had set up an experiment to test the existence of the tooth fairy. Having lost a tooth, he placed it under his pillow but did not tell his parents. He did not receive money from the tooth fairy. On the third day, he told his parents he had lost the tooth. He wakes up to find the tooth gone and money under his pillow. He then reveals his scheme to his parents, who scold him for duping them (but are secretly proud of their son's scientific rigour)!

Congratulations, Earnest, GalFisk and InvisibleMimsy, and thank you everyone for playing!
