[WiZ] Paige Turner

Postby WiZ » Tue May 22, 2018 10:44 pm

Paige generally likes to surround herself with positive people. However, once a week, she deliberately seeks out the most surly and disaffected person she can find. She makes no effort to cheer them up. Why does she seek them out?

ROIMBT. Caveat Earlispoilor.

Edit: Hadn't realised Paige Turner was a famous drag queen when I posted the puzzle. This fact is irrelevant, but I can't be bothered thinking of another title :)

Is her job relevant? Her personality, family, hobby, health?
Is she testing herself? Practising something, e.g. patience? Does she do something when she finds the surliest person? Does she seek them out alone, or does she have someone else with her? Does she get some kind of reward, financial or otherwise? Does a transaction take place? Does she have any relevant items with her?

Is it relevant which day of the week it is, and which time? Is it the same time each week? So this takes place in her spare time? Does she go to a particular place or places, area/s, indoors/outdoors?
Is the surliest person expecting her? Does Paige have a method for finding the person? Does she have a conversation with them? Are other contenders relevant?
Does she have with her: money, drugs, goods, information, sex, books, intangible things? Is she seeking any of those things from the other person?
Is she hoping to benefit the other person or help them to become more positive? Is religion relevant?

Is it relevant which day of the week it is, and which time? No to both, although some are more likely than others, statistically speaking Is it the same time each week? yes (more or less) So this takes place in her spare time? It doesn't take place in her work time Does she go to a particular place yes or places, area/s ('place' is a better descriptor), indoors yes/outdoors? no
Is the surliest person expecting her? no Does Paige have a method for finding the person? not relevantly Does she have a conversation with them? She will talk to them Are other contenders relevant? no
Does she have with her: money yes, drugs not relevantly, goods yes, information, sex, books, intangible things? no to rest Is she seeking any of those things from the other person? no
Is she hoping to benefit the other person or help them to become more positive? no Is religion relevant? not to this puzzle

Does this happen at a shop? A library? Nightclub? Same time/s of day? (list of times/days). Is her job relevant, e.g. emergency service, police etc Are they a customer or service user? Do they want her help and to be cheered up? Is she a Samaritan or counsellor? Would it typically be Friday or Saturday? (List of days) are they disadvantaged? Unwell? In a mess? Drunk? Homeless? Jobless? Is there a particular reason why they are disaffected? Would this reason apply to all or most of them?

Do the surly people all have the same job? The same kind of job? Do they all work in the same shop? Is the kind of shop relevant?

Does Paige buy something from the shop? Does Paige also work at the shop? Will she have seen the surly person before she approaches them? Is it a different surly person every time?

Do the people act surly to Paige? In a specific way? Are they rude to her?

Does Paige genuinely need the things she buys? If everyone working in the shop one day was very cheerful, would she still buy something? Does she buy the same thing(s) every time? Does she go to the shop specifically to seek out a surly person, or does she go for another reason but once she is there she wants to be served by the surliest person? Does she go to the shop at other times without seeking out a surly person?

Does she want to avoid cheerful people on that day? Avoid small talk?

Is the shop a supermarket? Corner shop? Does it sell toiletries? Cooked food? Drinks?

Does the surly person work on the till? Does she get served quicker if she chooses a surly person since others will be avoiding them?

Would the surly persons be tired? Does Paige think they might make mistakes, like not scanning some of the groceries? So Paige would save money?

Are they surly because they hate their job? So they don't care enough to scan everything? Or deliberately don't to get back at the company? Does Paige ask them to do something to save her money?

Are they surly because they hate their job? So they don't care enough to scan everything? Or deliberately don't to get back at the company? yes to both

***** SPOILER *****

When doing her weekly grocery shop, Paige tries to seek out the most disaffected-looking cashier to ring her items up. She reasons, correctly, that they are sufficiently disengaged and dissatisfied in their job that they will miss items, not bother to follow up on items that don't scan etc., saving Paige money.

Congratulations, Enjay, and thank you everyone for playing!
