Are there lit candles on the cake also? Relevant what age she is? Will the candles eventually get lit? Do the candles not being lit represent something?

Do the unlit candles represent absent people/animals? Who have died? How old is she (list of numbers) and how many lit candles are there? Next year, will she still be alive? Do the unlit candles represent something to do with Mia? Same Q re the lit candles?

Have the unlit ones never been lit? Lit and extinguished? Has she had unlit candles on her birthday cake before? Will she have it again? Do they imply something happy? Sad? Both? Neither?

Is the situation is a 'normal' one? Or is the fact that there are unlit candles more unusual? Are they celebrating another special anniversary? Such as X amount of years after of major life event of some sort? Do the candles represent something being fulfilled? I.e. she's completed 1 out of 6 things she wants to do?

Is Base 6 relevant? Leap years? Is maths relevant? Can you say how many lit and unlit candles would have been on last year's cake? And how many would be on next year's? Will they be lit at any stage, or remain unlit? Will the cake be eaten? Any other birthday celebrations relevant? How many [list of numbers] people are present, if relevant?

Are all the candles normal cake candles? Are they shaped like something? Shaped like numbers?

Are they arranged in a particular way? Does Mia blow the single candle out?

Do the candles represent something being fulfilled? Technically I.e. she's completed 1 out of 6 things she wants to do? Not like this

Is Base 6 relevant? No Leap years? No Is maths relevant? Yes Can you say how many lit and unlit candles would have been on last year's cake? Five/zero And how many would be on next year's? Two/four Will they be lit at any stage, or remain unlit? Any unlit candles will remain unlit Will the cake be eaten? Yes Any other birthday celebrations relevant? No How many [list of numbers] people are present, if relevant? Irrel

Are all the candles normal cake candles? Yes Are they shaped like something? No, but see below Shaped like numbers? Yope!

Are they arranged in a particular way? Yes Does Mia blow the single candle out? Yes

I think I might have this. You do... Are there five unlit candles? with the lit one farthest to the left? Yes to both

Are the candles arranged to form a number? Another shape? Is the fact she's 32 relevant? Will the arrangement of five lit/one unlit be repeated ever again? Is this something most people do?

Do they show her age in binary, lit candles being ones and unlit ones zeroes?

PMed you Exactly right.

Do they show her age in binary, lit candles being ones and unlit ones zeroes? Again, exactly right.

****SPOILER****

The candles on Mia's cake represent her age in binary. Since she is turning 32, the leftmost candle is lit while the other five are not.

Finally, a "possible quickie" that goes quickly. Well done biograd/Enjay/GalFisk for the correct answer, and everyone else for good penetrating questions.
