[WiZ] Commercial Traveller

Postby WiZ » Wed Aug 22, 2018 2:20 am

A teenage girl, who is fit and healthy and not worried about her weight, watches a TV commercial for a fast-food outlet. She then takes up hiking. Why?

ROIMBT. No caveat.

Is she hoping to increase her physical fitness? As an end in itself? As a means to an end?
Are other people involved in this puzzle? Does she hike alone? With one other person? more? Is a dog involved? I hope a dog is involved.

Is the commercial in this puzzle an actual commercial, i.e. one you could provide a link to when we solve the puzzle?
Is there hiking in the commercial?
Is it relevant what specific outlet the commercial's for? That it's for fast food? That's it's for food? Relevant what type of food the outlet sells?

Is the fast food outlet up a hill or mountain? Is it in a theme park? WAG - is it in a set/section devoted to The Sound of Music which involves hiking? Does she go for a job there, and if so is she successful? Relevant which country she's in or the location of the FFO? Is there a competition or sports event in this puzzle? Is she going after a goal or prize?

Hooray! Let's say she goes hiking with her dog, Tommy.

The other people involved in this puzzle: just one other person? two? three? four? more? Are they - friends? family? classmates? acquaintances? strangers? celebrities? Perhaps this person (people?) is/are present in the commercial?

Is it accurate to say she hopes to gain a benefit from taking up hiking? If so, would this benefit be attained after one hiking session? Does the benefit stack the more often she goes hiking?

Is hiking equipment relevant? Does she want an excuse to purchase something? Perhaps she tells her mum that she really needs something, she needs it for hiking? But in reality she wants it for another purpose?

Is a Fitbit or some other fitness tracker relevant? Is there a competition involved? “Put on x miles of cardio and get a day with [relevant celebrity endorser]”? Something similar?

Does she misunderstand something about the ad? Is it relevant how many times she goes hiking after that? As opposed to any benefit from the hiking itself, does she wish to: see wildlife? Prepare for an adventure? Get out of the house? See some geographic feature?

Is it relevant that she’s a teenager?

Is she known primarily for one character? Does she work mainly in film? Theatre? TV? Web stuff? Has she won an Oscar? An Emmy? Does this occur in the 2010s? 2000s? A relevant decade in the 20th century? Is the actor associated with a franchise? Star Wars? Twilight? Does something about her name conjure up a word association that leads to our heroine thinking she should go hiking? Is the relevant film a sci-fi? Fantasy? Drama? Thriller? Horror? Suspense? Comedy?

Does the teenager have a long-term end goal with the hiking? Something like she wants to be an astronaut, and she knows the fitness requirements for that career are pretty high, so she's getting a start now?

The geographic thing she yesishly wishes to see. Is the yesish related to whether or not the thing is geographic? To whether she wants to see it? To whether there is more than one of them? To whether she wants to see a specific thing versus a general one (for example, Mount Everest versus any mountain)? Vice versa? Is the thing on Earth? Is it a living thing? Man-made?

Is the teenager's name relevant ? the Celebrity's (other than to identify who she is) ? Does the teen want to gain a reputation as a hiker ? Is she looking to promote herself ? Gain publicity ? Launch a showbiz career? Would her hiking be newsworthy in any way?

Is it relevant where she hikes?

Random thought: is the name Skywalker relevant?

Does the teen idolize this celebrity? no Does she want to become more like her? no Less? yes (at first) Does she seek celebrity status for herself? no Doea she want her body to change? no Her abilities? no Does she want to add to her accomplishments? no

Trebor

Does this occur in the 2010s? 2000s? About the turn of the millennium A relevant decade in the 20th century? Is the actor associated with a franchise? no (until recently, and that's stretching the definition) Star Wars? Twilight? no to these Does something about her name conjure up a word association that leads to our heroine thinking she should go hiking? no Is the relevant film a sci-fi? Fantasy? no to these Drama? yes Thriller? Horror? primarily these Suspense? yes Comedy? no

Does the teenager have a long-term end goal with the hiking? I'll say no Something like she wants to be an astronaut, and she knows the fitness requirements for that career are pretty high, so she's getting a start now? Nothing like that

The geographic thing she yesishly wishes to see. Is the yesish related to whether or not the thing is geographic? no To whether she wants to see it? yes To whether there is more than one of them? no To whether she wants to see a specific thing versus a general one (for example, Mount Everest versus any mountain)? In this case, the equivalent would be 'any mountain', although she may find 'Everest' scarier than others Vice versa? Is the thing on Earth? yes Is it a living thing? yes Man-made? no

Peter

Is the teenager's name relevant ? no the Celebrity's (other than to identify who she is) ? no Does the teen want to gain a reputation as a hiker ? no Is she looking to promote herself ? Gain publicity ? Launch a showbiz career? no to these Would her hiking be newsworthy in any way? no

Never saw the film(s), but from what I've read, the actors were supposed to avoid appearing in public to continue the idea that the film was true and they'd really died. Relevant at all?
I'm not sure on the timeline - does she see the commercial before appearing in the film? After? Does she take up hiking in preparation for appearing in the movie?

Did an actress from the Blair Witch Project appear in the commercial?

Did the teenager see the film, think it was real and get too scared to go hiking in the woods? Then she saw the actress in the commercial, realised it wasn't real and felt confident enough to go hiking again?
