[invisiblemimsy] What Eve Saw

Postby invisiblemimsy » Wed Aug 29, 2018 8:26 pm

Eve grows up in a religious commune. There are strict rules, e.g. all food must be grown by the members, blankets and other luxuries are not allowed, and they each carry a small wooden board with them to sit on instead of, say, soft grass or a haystack. They are often warned about the debauchery in the Outside World.

When Eve is 16, she has to live in the Outside World for 3 months, as a test. She takes her wooden board with her so she doesn’t have to sit directly on the soft seats of the bus. On her very first journey, she sees a sign which gladdens her heart: perhaps people here aren’t so ungodly after all!

What did Eve see, and what did she think it meant?

Is a pun involved? Are there more rules in the commune that we need to find out, or do we have all the relevant ones?
Is the wooden board relevant? Is her name relevant? Does the sign contain the word 'God' at all? 'Eve'? 'board'? Eve = the eve of something (eg xmas eve) relevant? 'Board' as in 'bed and board' relevant?

Is "aboard" relevant? "Welcome aboard"?

Other than Eve's wooden board, which of the following meanings of 'board' are relevant:
- a board of directors?
- to embark on a vehicle?
- to have temporary accommodation - room and board?

Was the sign by the road? In a car? Was it "Baby on board"? haha

Is the word "board" relevant? Another word for board? Such as plank? Wood? Does she think other people also sit on boards?

****************************$POILER***************************

OMG :o Is this some kind of record?

Eve sees a sign on the rear windscreen of the car in front. It says, "Baby on board".

Well done to Jumpingjacks for the solution, and to Galfish and Trebor too.

I shall have to be more circumspect!
