Hi there puzzle pugilists , a rare (and no doubt quickie) from your Irish puzzle pal

A man is thinking of joining a society but on reading an online boast about its membership he immediately changes his mind. Why so ?

Early spoilers and all that!

Can we assume the boast online is from a member of this society? Are they boasting about something that the man finds distasteful? Annoying? Unethical? Does it reflect badly on the society? Does it imply he'd be expected to do something he wouldn't want to do if he joined the society? Does it undermine the signficance or importance of the society somehow? Make it seem pointless? Undesirable in some way? Is it at all relevant that he read the boast online and didn't hear it in person? Is the man misunderstanding or misinterpreting something?

Was the upsetting aspect about the boast its contents, or the manner in which it is made?

Nature of this society: political? professional? athletic? related to a common hobby? (like the LTPF!! It's not the LTPF, is it?) religious?
Can anyone join this society if they wish? Or do they need to have certain qualifications? Be of a certain gender/ethnicity/social class/other demographic group?

Did the boast in fact reveal the opposite of what it intended to boast about? Did the boast make the man believe that the members were nasty people? People that he would not wish to associate with?

Does the boast include the number of members? Number of new members? Members leaving? Members from a certain group? Such as rich members? Famous members? Female members? Young members? Does the boast reveal insensitivity on the part of the boaster? Shallowness?

question ignored :(

Assuming it is about the contents of the boast instead of the manner in which the boast is made - is it about something the members did? did the boast reveal members to which he does not want to be associated?

So the organisation is not Scientology...is it PETA?

Did the man assume something about the organization based on its name? Did he know what the organization actually supported/was about/did/(other verbs) before he read the boast?

Did the man assume something about the organization based on its name? Maybe so but I'm sure he had a good idea what the organisation stood for. Did he know what the organization actually supported/was about/did/(other verbs) before he read the boast? Yes

Freemasons relevant? Is it a society that keeps secrets? That has no secrets? Does it cost money to join? To leave? Do their rules allow leaving? Punish leaving? Relevant?

Is this based on something IRL? Has it been in the news recently?
Was the boast something which he thought was distasteful, and not a thing to be proud of? Some kind of infamy? The fact that the group is being talked about, and not in a good way? Is photography relevant?

Oh! Was it "the Flat Earth Society has members all around the globe"? Indeed it was

****************Spoiler*******************

I saw a picture of a twitter blurb for the flat earth society boasting that it had members from all around the globe. I'd imagine that would make any prospective members think twice.

I was unsure whether this blooper was well known or not but I should have realised that something so daft wouldn't escape your attention.

Thanks for playing
