[WiZ] Sophisticuffs

Postby WiZ » Wed Jan 09, 2019 10:13 pm

You know the rules. If not, they're here.

Sophie is an actress in a Hollywood film. She is playing a character less than a third her real age. Everyone agrees she is very convincing. How does she manage this?

BOATS. Caveat Earlispoilor.

Does Sophie play the character in person? Voice only? Via motion capture?

Is Sophie a young child, playing an even younger child, so that audiences can't tell the difference?

For that matter, is Sophie an infant, possibly playing a newborn?

Enjay

Is Sophie a young child, playing an even younger child, so that audiences can't tell the difference? yes to all

Balin

For that matter, is Sophie an infant, possibly playing a newborn? Yes to both

But babies grow very quickly - how does she get away with this? And why was she chosen?

Was she a premature birth?

***** SPOILER *****

Sophie is an adorable 15-day-old preemie. Due to laws and regulations about the minimum age of workers and actors, premature babies are often employed to play fresh-from-the-cervix newborns in films and TV, as they look indistinguishable.

Congratulations, Hobbsicle, Balin and Enjay. I knew this would get solved quickly, so this spoiler is by no means 'premature'. I had considered saying that she was playing a character less than one-tenth her age at the beginning, but you would have leaped to the 'newborn baby' conclusion even faster.

Hadn't known that tidbit about premature babies. Good one (and I believe this is the first time a one-at-a-time puzzle got solved as quickly as anticipated).
