[IrishElk] An Awkward Announcement

I use it almost every day. But, given the purpose that I use it for, it works better when I don't.

WAG: The LTPF Forum? And you're retiring? And decided to make a puzzle about it?

WAG: The LTPF Forum? No! And you're retiring? Neverrrrrr! And decided to make a puzzle about it? That would be awkward indeed. But no, they'll have to pry LTPF from my cold dead hands.

Is "it" a tangible object? a word/phrase/expression? an app? a website? a service?

Are all "it" the same thing? If not, are the first two "it" the same? And the last "it" the situation itself?

So, 'It' is an object? It works better on the days you don't use it? It works better when you don't use it for your particular purpose? Does it have moving parts? Would it help to find out how other people use it?

Is "it" a tangible object? Yes. a word/phrase/expression? an app? a website? a service? No to rest.

GalFisk

Are all "it" the same thing? Yes. If not, are the first two "it" the same? And the last "it" the situation itself? But also yes, kind of.

invisiblemimsy

So, 'It' is an object? Yes. It works better on the days you don't use it? Yes. It works better when you don't use it for your particular purpose? It works better for my particular purpose when I don't use it. Does it have moving parts? No. Would it help to find out how other people use it? Possibly.

Does it fit in your pocket? Does using it entail carrying it? Looking at it? Listening to it? Turning it on? Throwing it? Filling it? Emptying it? Giving it away? Exchanging it? WAG: is it cash savings, which get bigger when you don't carry them around and spend them?

Do other people use it the same way as you do? Does it have multiple uses, and if so, how many? Do you use it for multiple uses/how many? Is it a medical or health device? Office? Toy? Pet-related?

Do you use it for its intended purpose? WAG, but is it a paperweight that you use as a doorstop, thereby permitting papers to flutter around all willy-nilly?

Does it fit in your pocket? It can. Does using it entail carrying it? Yesish. Looking at it? Listening to it? Turning it on? Throwing it? Filling it? Technically, yes. Emptying it? Giving it away? Exchanging it? There's a more common verb for what one does with it.
WAG: is it cash savings, which get bigger when you don't carry them around and spend them? No, but so true!

invisiblemimsy

Do other people use it the same way as you do? Yes. Does it have multiple uses, and if so, how many? Good question--I'll say, most people do the same physical thing with it, but there are many potential reasons for doing this, and that is what I mean by "use." Do you use it for multiple uses/how many? One primarily, but there are several secondary reasons.
Is it a medical or health device? Office? Toy? Pet-related? No to all.

trebor

Do you use it for its intended purpose? Yesish--I do the same physical thing with it, for a different reason than its (probable) original purpose.
WAG, but is it a paperweight that you use as a doorstop, thereby permitting papers to flutter around all willy-nilly? Haha, no.

Filling-ish: inflating? Filling with data? Making it have less free space? Incrementing a number? Writing on/in it? Is it made from: paper? Glass? Plastic? Wood? Bone? Teech? Skin? Leather? Fur? Rubber? Ceramics? Clay? Liquid? Gas? Is it electric? Electronic? Appreciably heavier when filled-ish?

Is it manmade? Yes. Mass-produced? Sometimes, sometimes custom-made.
Do most people have it? I would say not most individuals. But I have read that after a TV, it is one of the most common things found in any American household. Do most people in industrialized countries have it? Not most, but probably more common here. Some countries use few or none.

Is it used when eating? Sleeping? Working? Relaxing? Cleaning clothes? The home? Oneself? This one's less likely, but... Preparing food? Leaving home? It can be in use during any of these. Is it carried? Worn? Yes. Do you fill it by putting a body part in it? Yes!

Glad you got to that, I felt like I was being mislead-y.

USB stick? Other computer related item? No. Other storage item? No. Something which fills up quickly, so works better when it still has space available? No.

Is it worn on: hands? Feet? Arms? Legs? Head? Neck? Face? Torso? Is your purpose to keep warm? Keep cool? Increase comfort? Keep clean? Keep wind out? Carry things? Avoid causing offense? Look good? Blend in? Stand out? Do a job?

Is it an item of clothing? A tool? And you use it for a different purpose than the one intended for it? Am I right to assume that "It can be in use during any of these" is different from "It is used for any of these?"
Might you damage it by using it for your purpose? Wear it out? Risk something? Is it an item of furniture?
The body part - are we talking hand, foot... (list of body parts)?

invisiblemimsy

Is it an item of clothing? Yesish. A tool? No. And you use it for a different purpose than the one intended for it? Eh, hard to answer. It has several, overlapping purposes--this could be said to be one of the intended ones. Am I right to assume that "It can be in use during any of these" is different from "It is used for any of these?" Yes, it is not used for the above activities.
Might you damage it by using it for your purpose? Not really. Wear it out? No. Risk something? No. Is it an item of furniture? No.
The body part - are we talking hand, This. foot... (list of body parts)? Specifically fingers. ^^

Is it jewelry? Protective equipment? Is it worn for luck? But when you don't wear it you're more careful? Is it symbolic? Like a wedding ring? Is it painted on? Like nail polish? Does it have a medical purpose?

Is it a glove? A ring? Is it relevant what your relationship status is? Or what people perceive it to be? Does the item impair your ability to grip something? Does it get in the way of you performing a task? Does using it damage it? Does it hurt someone else? (Like, if it’s a wedding ring and you use it to show your spouse you love them, but caressing them with the ring on scratches their face...)

Is it a purpose related to the relationship? Is her response to you wearing or not wearing the ring relevant? Do you take it off because it may cause danger? Inconvenience? Is your profession relevant?

When you use the ring, is it on your ring finger? Do you use it to perform a physical task? (For instance, is it especially good at opening pop cans?) Do you use it for financial gain? Is wedding planning relevant? Is the gender of your fiance relevant? Does the way you use the ring anger your fiance, meaning the ring works better as a symbol of your love when you don't do so?

Is it a purpose related to the relationship? Yes. Is her response to you wearing or not wearing the ring relevant? No (fiance's a he, but irr ^^). Do you take it off because it may cause danger? Inconvenience? This, not really relevant. Is your profession relevant? No.

Well obviously now I have to test that  Do you use it for financial gain? No. Is wedding planning relevant? Noish. Is the gender of your fiance relevant? No. Does the way you use the ring anger your fiance, meaning the ring works better as a symbol of your love when you don't do so? No, good thought.

Does the ring cause any change to your body?
WAG: is your skin about the same color as the ring due to sun exposure, so the ring isn't very visible, but when you take it off you have a visible ring of missing tan?
Do you miss the ring when it's not there? WAG2: Do you absent-mindedly fiddle with it when you wear it? And when you try to fiddle with it when it's not there, you're consciously reminded of your fiance?
Does it work by making you think of him? By making you happy? By making you miss him? By evoking some emotion? Some response?

********************************SPOILER
(for the puzzle that was my very awkward way of announcing to y'all that I'm engaged. )

The purpose of wearing an engagement ring, for me, is as a constant reminder about how happy my fiance and the upcoming event make me.

But as anyone who wears a piece of jewelry everyday can tell you, you completely forget it's there most of the time, so not a great way to remember anything.

However, when I forget to or can't wear it, my finger constantly feels naked, making it a much more effective reminder.
