[IrishElk] Melinda Moves

Postby irishelk » Sat Dec 14, 2019 6:49 pm

Every time Melinda moves
her generosity improves.

(This puzzle will be slightly neater
if you question in poetic meter.)

Love versponses, so a round of applouse!
Move from one house to another house?
Or move as in wriggle around,
Run, or leap, or hop, or bound?
Oh, is the heroine of our tale
A HAF?

Glad to please you with my rhymes--
you got here in the nick of time!
She's moving homes (but not relevant
if it's a house, condo, or apartment...);
She's human, adult, as I'm sure you meant,
and gender is irrelevant.

Does she like her new neighbors or does she hate 'em?
'generosity improves' - I quote you verbatim.
This means she gives more to charity now?
Is more inclined to equality and parity now?
Did she move from larger to smaller digs?
Or converslly, from littles to bigs?
Is there in some way a mismatch?
e.g. from Manhattan to Dogpatch?
or vice versa?
(The rhyme grows tersa.)

I love your verse, it's very witty,
and YES, she does give to charity.
But neighbors, place and size of home
Are not relevant to this poem.

Is her charity volunteer, of her own will?
Just something that happens, will she or nil?
Is it of the move, an effect on the side/
Or something intended, in which she can take pride?

It is a conscious choice she makes
not just a side effect, for sure--
but whatever level of pride she takes,
her motivations aren't entirely pure.

Is it money that she so willingly gives away?
Food? Books? Clothes? Toys for kids to play?
Does she do it for reputation? For cash?
Or perhaps she's a hoarder who must empty her stash?

Welcome to the forum Rose--
I love when our small family grows!

Is it money that she so willingly gives away?
Food? Books? Clothes? Toys for kids to play?

It is a monetary present,
a physical item it isn't.

Does she do it for reputation? For cash?
Or perhaps she's a hoarder who must empty her stash?

There is practicality to the gift,
not exactly for cash, but somewhat for thrift.
and to answer the final query above:
no, she needn't get rid of anything she loves.

So she acts, not out of need
But to have the seed
For investment that someday,somehow
May give her wealth to endow
Causes wise, good and excellent?
Is that the sum of her intent?

Does Melinda give to just one human?
Does more than one, say, split the dues when
She vacates her prior abode?
Mayhap they’ve helped her with the load?

Does giving thus help her achieve
Some means be which she aims achieve
A form of ruse, disguise, deception,
Or other thing of ill intention?

Relevant why she moves? How often?
Will she keep on giving more 'til she lies in a coffin?
Family relevant? Coworkers? Friends?
Does she move because something ends?
Does generosity give her a perk?
Compensate for her being a jerk?
Does she move because she became richer?
In order to become it? Is she a job switcher?

But to have the seed
For investment that someday,somehow
May give her wealth to endow
Causes wise, good and excellent?
Is that the sum of her intent?
She has a financially sound reason
to be generous in moving season,
but it is not exactly true,
that extra money will someday accrue.

trebor

Does Melinda give to just one human?
Does more than one, say, split the dues when
She vacates her prior abode?
Mayhap they’ve helped her with the load?
The recipient of her generosity
is not a single person, see,
but it is also not quite right or equal,
to say it is several individual people.

Does giving thus help her achieve
Some means be which she aims achieve
A form of ruse, disguise, deception,
Or other thing of ill intention?
She does not commit any foul play
selfish intentions is the worst I could say.

GalFisk

Relevant why she moves? How often?
Will she keep on giving more 'til she lies in a coffin?
Family relevant? Coworkers? Friends?
Does she move because something ends?
Not relevant why/where/when/how/what she moves,
she could do this every time and be just as smooth.

Does generosity give her a perk?
Compensate for her being a jerk?
Yes to your first question--you're warm, warmer, hot!
(no to the second, though it's good thought.)

Does she move because she became richer?
In order to become it? Is she a job switcher?
No, that is not her intent,
but good to note--job is not relevant.

The perk: more friends? More money? Less taxes?
A bonus? Ten free bikini waxes?
Does she give to a group? A cause? A charity?
Is the benefit greater? Is it on parity?
Smaller in value than what she's giving?
Relevant what she does for a living?
Does she give money? Knowledge? Her time?
Is she relevantly involved in any crime?
Is she rich? Poor? A business owner?
Can she be called benefactor? Donor?

She saves money overall but this is, in short,
because of a perk of a different sort.

Does she give to a group? A cause? A charity?
Is the benefit greater? Is it on parity?
Smaller in value than what she's giving?
Relevant what she does for a living?
She gives to an organized charity,
in US tax terms, a 501(c)3.
And good question--the value of what she receives
is greater that what she has given, she believes.

Does she give money? Knowledge? Her time?
Is she relevantly involved in any crime?
Is she rich? Poor? A business owner?
Can she be called benefactor? Donor?
She does donate in cash, but lest you feel flattered:
Neither her career nor her income level matter.

Does her giving obligate another?
e.g.: "Give to this group, or that, or some other
And we will match it, nickle for nickle?"
Or can she be changeable and fickle,
And choose where she wishes to give.
Does this make a difference, do you belive?

I'll say yes, her gift does induce other gifts,
But not exactly in the way you put it.

Or can she be changeable and fickle,
And choose where she wishes to give.
Does this make a difference, do you belive?
She could choose certain other recipients
without altering her intents,
but she might have to do some research first,
To make sure it wasn't a change for the worse.

Does the charity she would support
Give aid medical, or does it purport
To be educational, as in a college?
Or a library, to aid knowledge?
And please tell me, if you've been told,
Is it aimed at youth, adults, the old?

Do all givers receive this benefit?
Does she benefit more than others?
When she moves, does she need to claim it
Again? Or does she claim another?
Change of address relevant? City?
If she moved one house over, would it be a pity
That she couldn't do this then? Or could she?
Has she told anyone what she's doing? Would she?

Does giving funds to charity
Give her mind some clarity?
Decrease the clutter or the boxes?
Perhaps by giving cars or oxes
Which could help transport possessions
(Well, maybe not those pesky oxens)

The group to which she gives her dough,
Does she count them friend or foe?
Is their cause here relevant?
Does it have a social bent?
Could she give to them, at times
When she stayed put, as many dimes?

The cause could be any of these, and yet,
an environment group would be her best bet.
(At least, that has been my experience,
others might have a different sense.)

Again? Or does she claim another?
Everyone receives the same thing for
giving; she just values it more.
And yes, it is quite necessary when
she changes homes, to give again.

Change of address relevant? City?
If she moved one house over, would it be a pity
That she couldn't do this then? Or could she?
Has she told anyone what she's doing? Would she?
I'm able to proclaim with glee,
her change of address is the key!
Even if she moved from Apt. 7 to 8
she would be just as likely to donate.

Irrelevant whether she has told others,
she would have no reason that I can discover.

I love your rhyme and your oxen invention,
but alas, none of these are her intention.

She probably supports the cause, but--not to disappoint--
their work and her opinions are beside the point.
She could still give when she's settled in deep,
but let's say she doesn't--that otherwise she's cheap.

Does she get something tangible? Something in mail?
Do they send her bills? Cards? Questions without fail
For more money? Does she get something she needs?
What she won't buy, out of cheapness or greed?

You are deliciously on the right track,
when she gives she gets something mailed back,
and so does not need to spend money on it,
And cards is very close--you've nearly won it.

Envelopes? Papers with only one side written?
Stamps for return mailings? Unfinished mitten?
Does the thing she gets cost more than she spends?
Has she made a good deal she feels, when the day ends?

So, behind her gift there is a reason?
Does it depend on time or season?
Is it to do with Christmas cards or a calendar?
Is it something similar to that thar?

You got it! You got it! Well, that was fun!
(The return stamps, not the mitten one.)

*****************************SPOILER

Melinda is cheap, and spending upsets her,
But she likes to send a whole lot of letters.
She knows of certain charities
that send return address labels free.
Not wanting to pay extra for stickers,
She's found a way that's cheap and quicker;
sending in a small donation
with your new street address/location
ensures a steady supply of labels
(and pleas to give more when you're able).
