A king once had a terrible secret that he dared not allow to come out. But a tree told his secret. How?

Based on a folktale.

Did the tree speak? Do something else non-treelike? Did the tree die? Get cut down? Blown over? Relevant to whom it told the secret? If so: a relative? Lumberjack? Woodworkwer? Rival? Was it a terrible secret of: sloth? Greed? Lust? Wrath? Gluttony? Envy? Pride? Did something terrible happen when the secret came out? Relevant?

Did the tree speak? Yesish, explore. Do something else non-treelike? No. Did the tree die? Get cut down? This. Blown over? Relevant to whom it told the secret? No. If so: a relative? Lumberjack? Woodworkwer? Rival? Was it a terrible secret of: sloth? Greed? Lust? Wrath? Gluttony? Envy? Pride? None of these, though I suppose pride could come into it. Did something terrible happen when the secret came out? Relevant? No to both.

To be sure: was the king HAM? Were his parents thee previous King and Queen? If so, did they have a relevant interaction with the tree? Relevant where the tree was? In a forest? Inside a castle? Was the tree a normal tree? Did it have fruits/flowers relevantly? Did the tree revealed the secret before being cut down? After (i.e. rings of the tree's bark revealing the age of the tree?)? Was the tree considered sacred?

WAGs --> 1) the king had a lover. They engraved their names on the tree. 2) someone was hanged on the tree? 3)

Did he have a relevant interaction(s) with the tree? If so when the tree was grown? When the tree was a seed? Was someone killed? A treasure hidden? Venom inside the earth? groundwater polluted?

To be sure: was the king HAM? Yes. Were his parents thee previous King and Queen? Assume yes. If so, did they have a relevant interaction with the tree? No. Relevant where the tree was? Mildly - simply nearby. In a forest? Inside a castle? Specific location irr. Was the tree a normal tree? Yes. Did it have fruits/flowers relevantly? No. Did the tree revealed the secret before being cut down? No. After Yes. (i.e. rings of the tree's bark revealing the age of the tree? But no.)? Was the tree considered sacred? No.

WAGs --> 1) the king had a lover. They engraved their names on the tree. 2) someone was hanged on the tree? 3) No to both.

Did he have a relevant interaction(s) with the tree? No, but ... If so when the tree was grown? When the tree was a seed? This. Was someone killed? No. A treasure hidden? Explore. Venom inside the earth? Explore. groundwater polluted? No.

Death relevant? No. The roots of the tree? Yes. Did he plant the tree? No. Was something relevantly embedded in the tree? For SVV of "embedded." Was the growth of the tree relevantly affected? No.

Was the tree cut? Yes. Uprooted? No. Was the earth polluted? No. Dead body buried under the tree relevant? No. Was a treasure/something else hidden near the tree? Yes.

Were the roots visible from the ground relevantly?
My thought is as follows (maybe too wild): the presence of the tree did not allow a "complete view" of the roots'branching. Once the tree was cut down one could have a complete overview of the brances (i.e. the bark of the tree did not hinder the view). If so, maybe the roots' branching were a map...?

Treasure = jewelery? Money? The original something (e.g. the king was wearing a fake crown while the original one was near the tree)? Something smaller than a seed? Much bigger? An object? A person? A piece of paper?

Did the tree relevantly fall down? If so relevant in which direction? Relevant the reasons why the tree was cut (e.g. make space? Build a dam? It was too old? To be replaced? Others)? Did the roots reveal the position of the treasure? Of a river? Of a secret passage?

Was the tree relevantly near to other trees? Emt relevant?

Is it something that can happen in real life? Blood relevant? A strange question: could the presence of the tree affect his staying on the throne? The fact that he was the king? Did the tree physically hold the king's secret? Relevant which kind of tree it was? A Christmas tree? A pine? a fir? a baobab? a cactus? others?

Was the secret about: his person? something that he did? Something that he did against someone? That he was ill? That he was evil? Is the secret something that could be spotted by looking at the roots of the tree? By looking at the inside part of the tree's bark? Was the tree concave when cut (i.e. it had a relevant space in inside)? Normal (i.e. as a normal tree when cut)?

Venom inside the earth? Explore. --> was the earth polluted? The water? Is a venom important? Agriculture? Animals? Diseases? Can the earth where the tree grown normal (i.e. where normal trees usually grow? Suitable for the growth of a tree?)?

Relevant the reasons why the tree was cut Yes --> Was it the only tree cut? Was the tree cut because it had a disease? It was dying? Because its wood was necessary to build up something (e.g. weapons? Boats?)? To make fires? Because its wood was employed somewhere else? To reveal the king's secret?

When the tree was a seed? This. --> Did he touch the seed? Eat it? planted it? Speak with it? See it? Play with it? throw it away? Did he grow the tree? Take care of it?

A king once had a terrible secret that he dared not allow to come out --> was someone else relevantly aware of the secret? The tree? Did the king want the tree to be cut? Maybe the king had a brother? Make an alliance with enemies? Belonged to a relevant race (e.g. he was not human)? Was the kings' throne relevantly made of wood? Did the tree speak (i.e. literally revealed the secret) when it was cut?

So the king spoke with the tree when it was a seed? Once the tree was cut, did it speak? Did it tell the kings' secret?

If spread, would the secret be advantageous for the king? Dangerous?

its wood was necessary to build up something Yes. --> relevant "what"? An house? A building? something concerning the king? A table? Round table? Is King Arthur relevant? Is the king famous?

Oh maybe I figured out that I know this one...PM send

So is it relevant how the seed ended up in the ground? Would the king have been alive at the time? Present at the time? Did the seed/tree audibly hear the king's spoken secret? Did the tree audibly tell the secret? Tell it in writing? Is something other than the tree buried under or near the tree? Do the roots tell the secret?

It was learned by the public when played on the instrument. What I meant to ask was, how did it end up under the tree, who "placed" it there and why?

This one's gone on longer than it needed to; I think I could have stopped at the revelation of the secret, so here's the story - this version from the Balkans.

SPOILER

Once upon a time, the Tsar was born with the ears of a goat. He was ashamed of this, and grew his hair to hide it. However, he could not hide it from his barber. Whenever he had a haircut, he would ask the barber, "What do you see?"

When the barber answered, "The ears of a goat, sire," he was beheaded. Obviously, the barbers of the country were soon loath to attend him. At last, only a junior, but quick-thinking, apprentice was willing to attend him.

"What do you see, apprentice?" asked the Tsar.

"I see nothing, Sire," answered the apprentice. Pleased, the Tsar appointed him as the royal barber.

But the young man now knew the secret, and could not bear to keep it to himself. At last, he went to a forest, and whispered into a hole, "The Tsar has the ears of a goat!" Satisfied, he returned to work.

Sometime later, a tree grew on the spot where he had whispered the secret. One day, a bard came along, and cut a branch from the tree to make into a flute. To his surprise, when he attempted to play his new instrument, it sang, "The Tsar has the ears of a goat!"

"The Tsar has the ears of a goat! The Tsar has the ears of a goat!" Before long, the bard had played the secret for the ears of all in the kingdom. The Tsar confronted his terrified barber, the only person who could have given away the secret. When he learned the barber had only told his secret to the forest itself, he realized that such a secret could not be hidden - even the earth would spit it out. He gave a pardon and gold to his barber as thanks for teaching a a valuable lesson. You cannot hide who you truly are.
