[Hobbsicle] Prime and Punishment

Postby Hobbsicle » Fri Jan 24, 2020 4:36 am

Recently, in order to help prevent crime, many people have started writing more numbers than they usually would. Eventually, they will likely stop doing it and will not need to do it again for the rest of their lives. Why?

OOATP rules apply.

Crime: technological crime (e.g. credit card credentials theft? Theft? Password stealing? Password vs fingerprints?)? Murder? Theft? Street related crimes (minor crimes/infractions)? Stealing identity? Internet related? Copyrights related crimes? Others?

Are more numbers written in order to: help? Obfuscate? Confuse? Authenticate? Waste space? Randomize? Consume resources? Encrypt? Decrypt?

Crime: technological crime (e.g. credit card credentials theft? Theft? Password stealing? Password vs fingerprints?)? Murder? Theft? Street related crimes (minor crimes/infractions)? Stealing identity? Internet related? Copyrights related crimes? Others? Most specifically something else, but possibly related to theft in certain cases

Galfisk

Are more numbers written in order to: help? Obfuscate? Confuse? Authenticate? This is probably closest, but not exactly right Waste space? This is vaguely relevant Randomize? Consume resources? Encrypt? Decrypt?

PM send Correct!

Since this has now been thrice solved, I’ll go ahead and post the

——————SPOILER——————

Those who have been accustomed to abbreviating the year when writing the date (e.g. 5/10/19) have now been advised, in the year of our Lord 2020, to write the full year, as abbreviating to “20” allows for fraudsters to simply complete the date to any nearby year past or present. This will not be an issue again for 101 years, which is, barring any incredible medical advancements, well past the end of our lifetimes.

So there you go. If you didn’t know, now you do. Thanks for playing!
