[WiZ] The deceased's health has not yet improved

Postby WiZ » Wed Jun 03, 2020 3:12 am

On a cold winter's night, a young man is discovered dead in the street. An autopsy revealed his blood alcohol level to be elevated, but his death is attributed to what he had in his pockets. How did he die?

BOATS. Caveat Earlispoilor. OAATP Rules apply.

blood alcohol level to be elevated --> was he drunk? Did he drink a lot of alcohol before his death to forget something (e.g. bills that he had in his pockets/ letters from someone)? Did someone put alcohol inside his death body?

WAG: he drunk a lot to shelter from the cold of the winter. Accidentally he got injured on an hand. Blood, full of alcohol, flowed. He put his hands into his pockets, where, for some reason, there was something flammable and died.

blood alcohol level to be elevated --> was he drunk? Yes (you get this one for free as I intended this part to be self-evident) Did he drink a lot of alcohol before his death to forget something (e.g. bills that he had in his pockets/ letters from someone)? no/not relevantly

If he didn't die from what was in his pockets, but his death was attributed to what was in his pockets, does that mean that the attribution was wrong?

Assuming that he did not have anything else in his pockets and that the two identical things are not independent one to another, are the two identical things: batteries? money/coins? jewelry? syringes? keys? drugs? pills? animals? papers? food? magnets? scissors (xD)? cutlery? weapons? hand protheses? gloves (either in the sense that he had but being drunk he did not put them or in the sense that he had them but they were broken)? ice cubes? something that small that he needed to check if it was preset while driving a motorbike? a pair of: socks? shoes?

ok maybe too many questions here...OAATP is a good exercise for a serial questioner like me xD

Earnest

Did he die because someone thought he had an hidden gun? no

Enjay

Did he fall and was unable to save himself because his hands were in his pockets?

***** SPOILER *****

He had fallen down a staircase, and was unable to break or slow his fall due to his hands being in his pockets. Health and Safety advocates advise against keeping hands in pockets when descending stairs, especially if one has been drinking.

Congratulations, Enjay, on the solution, and thank you everyone for playing!

I had that drummed into me as a child and to this day feel very uncomfortable walking around with my hands in my pockets! Another one was that you shouldn't walk around with a lollipop sticking out of your mouth in case you fall face first and choke on the stick...

Reminds me of a time when I was helping shoot a film, and was carrying two cameras down a flight of stairs. It was wet from a recent rain, and I slipped on the metal edging of the steps and flew backward, bashing the back of my head on the concrete, and landing hard on my back. Both of the cameras were safely clutched to my chest. I hurt for weeks. Anything for the art, I suppose.
