[Doriana] So call me Mabel

Postby Doriana » Wed Jul 15, 2020 2:28 pm

Why did Nora (H/C/F) decide to go by her middle name?

Based on a true story. OAATP rules apply.

If she went by her first name, would her name make a pun/bit of wordplay she wanted to avoid?

Is someone in the family (maybe Nora or the sibling) unable to pronounce "r"s, so that Nora sounds just like her sibling's name Noah?

Foreign languages relevant? Are they from an English-speaking country? German-speaking? Scandinavian? (We pronounce Nora and Laura very differently.) Did they move to some other country?

Foreign languages relevant? Yes Are they from an English-speaking country? No German-speaking? Yes Scandinavian? No (We pronounce Nora and Laura very differently.) So do we! Did they move to some other country? YES

********SPOILER********

German-speaking Nora moves to an English-speaking country with her parents and older sister Laura. In German, Nora and Laura have different first vowels, but they sound very similar in English. This repeatedly leads to the sisters mishearing their name as the other's name, to the point where Nora is so annoyed that she decides to go by her middle name instead.

Well done, and thanks for sticking with this, GalFisk!
