This was a supporting character, right? right So it would not be Agatha Christie 'killing off' Hercule Poirot yes to the analogy, no to the specific example. Hastings, maybe? this level of detail is irrelevant, although the deceased could well have had the role/significance of Hastings Though she did not 'kill him', simply married him off and wrote him pretty much out of the series.
