Although he has a job at which he is at risk of suffering the same ailment, and keeps that job for another decade-plus, he never attempts the home remedy again, and discourages others suffering the same ailment from trying it. Why?

Pitcher Roy Oswalt suffered a severe shoulder injury while in the minor leagues, but accidentally cured it by electrocuting himself while repairing the spark plugs in his truck. Oswalt went on to spend 13 seasons in the majors, but obviously never tried fixing his shoulder that way again, as it's never a good idea to electrocute oneself.
