[Konnie] First new-site puzzle

Postby Konnie » Fri Jun 13, 2014 4:03 am

I suspect this one will go quickly.

A few months ago, some royalty smashed some insects. I'm sure many people were angry, but I was delighted.

Were the insects actual insects? Were the royalty actual royalty? Relevant exactly who the royalty were?
Is this a true story? Fictional?

Did Queen win some poll , are the insects also a group? Adam and the Ants? Any particular song relevant?

I'm guessing more likely the Beatles (given Queen as an alternate for "winning" something)? Was it some sort of "best band of all time" type poll? Best British group?

Did Queen win some poll , are the insects also a group? Yes Adam and the Ants? No, I'm afraid I've never heard of them. Any particular song relevant? No

I'm guessing more likely the Beatles (given Queen as an alternate for "winning" something)? Right! Was it some sort of "best band of all time" type poll? Yes... Best British group? And yes! I knew this would go quick.

Time for the much beloved...
SPOILER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
******************************************************************************************************************************

Turns out the more recent poll I heard was a smaller one and not the one I had in mind. In the one I heard conducted by BBC Radio 2, over 20,000 people voted via call, text, and email on who was the "Top British Band". The bands were judged on song-writing, lyrics, live performances, originality, and showmanship. Queen beat The Beatles by just 400 votes. Although, I'm a fan of both and I heard plenty of complaints about the outcome, I like Queen a bit better and was therefore delighted.

Good show, everyone!

I've always felt that The Beatles were somewhat overrated but I suppose they were the first supergroup and their legacy endures.

You're not missing much not having heard of Adam and the Ants. Two big hits in the early 80s then vanished.

I enjoy listening to The Beatles while writing, but Queen has the type of songs that make me stop what I'm doing to crank up the volume.
